I can see it coming in the near future. Schools are already calling it "winter holidays" instead of Christmas Break. Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, especially when you are a kid, it represents everything good. Giving, spending time with family, etc......

I heard on the radio this morning where all the aethists and liberals were trying to get rid of Christmas as a national holiday. This country is going down the drain fast.

We liberals love holidays. No way we push to lose that.

Who cares if the Gov. doesn't recognize Christmas as a national holiday? You can celebrate it yourself with your own family and church. Let the gov. handle gov. business while you handle your religious business, as it should be.

Yeah, I'm sure the liberals just hate Christmas, never mind that a majority of them are Christian themselves.

    EXACTLY!!!!!

honestly, my gut reaction was that this would be a good thing from a Christian perspective...because the focus of the holiday might be on its true reason/purpose rather than on all the superflous cultural things that have latched on to it over the years.

i'd still celebrate with my family. it would still mean the same to me. and as Jewish lawyers are given clearance to reschedule hearings/trials on Jewish holidays, i'm sure courts would be sensitive to that for Christians with Christmas.

I say we move Christmas back to July where it's supposed to be. It's warmer, and wasn't Christ really born in July anyway? Or was it June?

    ;)

I'm agnostic, have two children, and have always loved Christmas. I think you couldn't be further off base. Government and religion should be separate. That has no bearing on how people celebrate religious holidays, regardless of faith.

(actually, I think your statement was amazingly silly, but I'm trying to be civil.)

    Keep D&D Civil.

Interesting read. Jesus apparently was born sometime between May and September and around 5 B.C.

My statement? I heard it on AM talk radio this morning, they had an entire show talking about it, so it isn't my statement. I even mentioned that in my original post, so what are you talking about?

Christmas was not even the day Jesus was born. In fact, it wasn't written in th Bible when exactly Jesus was born, which is quite appropriate. Because it's not the birth of Jesus, but the death and resurrection of Jesus supposed to be remembered. If I remember correctly, that Christmas was celebration for some religion worshiping the Sun and fire.

So, what's the big deal if Christmas is no longer celebrated as it's now, or stops to be a national holiday, from a religious or non-religious point of view?

to me, this is just another issue that conservative leaders like to tout so they can tell their drones that their beliefs are under attack. liberals are trying to ruin christmas. it happens every year around this time. "the attack on christmas", coming next on fox news©

your comment about "aethists and liberals" being responsible is very telling.

you're right..Easter Sunday is the most significant day in the Christian calendar.

having said that...as a Christian, Christmas holds tremendous meaning for me. and i would still celebrate it, whether it were a national holiday or not.
