Even Yao and Steve cannot gain any advantage from the refs.

SF3 was screwed twice during the last several minutes against Dallas. Spoon got a clean block on Najera but was called for a foul.

Yao has been consistenly called for ticky tacky fouls the whole season, but could not get calls when the foul was obviously there. Take last night's game for example. He got an offensive rebound but was hammered by two Hornets under the basket and missed the 2 footer. No call. Even JVG was frustrated to the point of shouting towards the ref: "Can Yao ever get a call?"

Later in the game, Yao grabbed a defensive and was nearly pushed to the ground. SF was jumping up and down in front of the refs and eventually they blew the whistle.

If we (especially the stars) cannot get neutral calls at home, how can we expect to get favorable calls on the road and in the playoffs?

Magloire got away with some of the most blatant pushes i have ever seen. Yao would start to make his move, and Magloire would shove him with both hands, basically forcing Yao backwards into a fadeaway shot. On the other end, Tractor Traylor brushed against Yao, fell down, and got the call, sending Yao to the bench. Guess the refs were just trying to keep it close, the hornets were obviously outmatched with Yao in the game.

Man, welcome to the NBA. It is just tough some nights.

As the Rockets get better and become a legit contender, they'll start to get the calls they aren't getting now.

When I used to bet, I had a sheet on all the referee crews, some are more apt to call fouls...thus more freethrows, and some let them play...usually a lower scoring game.

It helped me win a lot on the overs and unders.

Last nights crew is a let em play crew.

I actually don't think we get screwed that bad. Yao gets slapped a bunch, but that happens to every dominant post player (except for beyatch karl malone). Steve has some charges called against him that probably shouldn't be, but that's largely his fault as he tends to put his head down and has a rep as a "charger" among certain refs so it just happens. I've actually seen Yao get the benefit of some ticky tack fouls on occasion when going for a board that don't seem that bad, a few of the ones on shaq in the game where shaq fouled out didn't seem that egregious to me.

we're getting screwd but I agree with Sam, we're not getting screwed on calls to the point of games being unwinnable.

I'm always a big believer in the calls shouldn't make a difference if your team shows up for the nite.

They'd probably get more respect if they didn't whine about it as much. I'm less likely to give my kids what they want when they whine about it, than I am when they wait patiently.

Yao does get murdered on a nightly basis, but keep in mind he's still only in his 2nd season. If the same thing is happening a year from now, then there's a problem.

As far as Steve is concerned, he'd get a lot fewer offensive fouls called on him if he'd just give up the ball on the fast break. Or stop and pop. He used to do that all the time, but I swear I've seen it maybe once this season.

Well said, the Rox do have a lot of people who have never ever commiitted a single foul in their NBA career. Running to the refs like Cato, Cat, and Franchise do everytime they get called for a foul isn't gonna endear them to the refs, I've even seen Yao do it on occassion. Guess his English is better now

From what i have seen, Yao really does only complain when it's a bad or questionable call. I don't know how long this will last, but when he complains, the missed call was pretty heinous.

Hey, as far as I'm concerned, no Rocket ever HAS committed a foul in his Houston career.

The other teams? Bunch of fouling turds, all of 'em.

Unfortunately, it isn't just the Rockets, from what watching other games most teams/players do alot of whining. I really think its just the inconsistantancy of the referees or players just can't get a feel how they are going to call the game. (ex. like a varying strike zone in baseball).

I remember when Jack Madden would be ref. a game thinking "dream is not gonna get any calls", atleast you kinda know what he's gonna call/not call. So I think there are so many new refs every year you just can't get comfortable.

You forgot TD. If anyone touchs him when he is posting up, he goes to the FT line.

That is not always true, just look at Lakers.

If you complain and do it the right way, refs will likely to award you a makeup call. They knew they screwed up often.

But if you keep silent no matter what, the refs will think they made all the calls right on you and then you will get screwed again and again.

The quiet audience is a reason refs feel free to screw us. If the boos are louder, if people throw drinks at refs, if someone shout "do get run over by a truck on the way out", these crooked refs will wet their pants. Sure someone may be tossed out or even pay a fine, but Rox will gain respects from these refs.

The refs handed us the win vs. the Clippers a few days ago.

We shot something like 30 free throws. They ended up with around 20, but quite a few of those came when the game was already decided.

Offensively, Yao is starting to get fouls called in his favor. When he is on defense however, he has been called for some ticky-tack fouls. Lets face it though, when your 7’ 6” you stick out like a sore thumb. When Yao reaches in everyone in the building can see it. I will cut the refs a little slack though, Yao is a little like Shaq it’s very hard to know when he’s being aggressive or not.

Steve, on the other hand, is not getting the fouls that he use to get. The days of Steve driving toward the basket while flinging himself into a pile of opponents, and throwing up a hail mary are over. The refs are not calling this foul anymore, nor should they.

It's ironic that you start this thread now.

I agree that we didn't get the calls against the Mavs, nor do we get them most of the time it seems. Of course I could be a little bit biased. No, we get screwed most of the time!

But... I actually felt like the last two games were called more in our favor than the other way around. I kept thinking if I was a fan of the other team, I'd be pissed.
