Spoon played very well yesterday and play well nowadays.

I doubt Spoon will take the starting position from Cato sometimes later.
If we have a start lineup like
    Steve, cat, JJ, cato, Yao,

we will have a very deep bench:
MoT :eek:ur 6th man. our secret weapon
Cato : our defend choice. our TMD package ( anyone knows TMD?
the missile system to protect America from enemies' missiles.)
Pita : when we need 3 pointers ( I hope he gets better)
MJ : when we need more ball movements.

I think Cato will still start, but you can see the difference in this team offensively when the PF can make JUMPSHOTS. Mo and to a lesser extent Spoon can do that and it really opens up the game for the offense.

    Spoon is an undersized PF.

Rockets have been jumping out to early leads and then being reeled back in lately. Cato has been starting and coming out of the game in the first quarter. Coincidence?

Cato has also been playing more minutes the last 2 or 3 games.

What are the chances Cato will perfect the 15-foot jumpshot this summer?

Oakley did it, why can't Cato?

If Cato carves out an automatic 15-foot jumper this summer, then he's well worth the money we're paying him.

Never, Spoon's undersized and if I'm not mistaken, he can't dunk. while not being able to dunk doesn't meanch much, we will not be seeing the backdoor pass that we see with Francis to Cato, that is one of the most exiting Rockets play, and with spoon, that just won't happen.

Cato seems to have a decent shot and if he works hard enough, he can definitly shoot like oakley or maybe better. Our team will be nasty if that happens.

Spoon is too undersize for a PF to start. MoT will likely be the starter if Cato loses his job.

the percentage of spoon laying up and Cato catching an alley hoop and dunking will be exactly the same when they are wide open underneath like that. 2 points is 2 points to me.

Even though that play might look nice and everything, we overdo it when Cato is covered sometimes and would miss a dunk instead of catching it and laying it up.

Never. If Spoon starts to pick more minutes and Kato start to diminish his minutes, Rockets will start downfold.

I don't even Cato can do a fingerroll nor a fast layup. He's nothing but a JUMPING machine on the court, figuratively speaking.

Don't get me wrong on this, I like Cato's energy and his contributions. I just don't like him making those jumpers when there's still time.

I am not holding my breath on that one. We still need to upgrade the PF position. Cato is only a short term solution.

    I love Cato. EXCEPT.

    EXCEPT.

EXCEPT WHEN HE SHOOTS THE MID.

Now, Cato has already improved beyond our wildest hopes this offseason. Did anyone ever, I mean EVER, expect kelvin Cato to hold his own as a Western Conference power forward? I laughed at the suggestion that he play alongside Yao when it was made last year. Rightfully so, too.

But yet, he's done a damn decent job! Incredible!

Based on his improvement, I don't think it's impossible that he'll get that shot down this offseason. Heck, I'm not even sure it's improbable. It's just unlikely, at worst.

I don't condone trading Cato under any circumstance. We NEED a good backup center, a position Cato has played all year in ADDITION to starting forward, because of Yao's stamina problems. Yao's becoming the man, but he still can't play 40 minutes a night consistently. Our short-ass, slow team needs a good big defender in the middle to be successful on D. I can't think of anyone we could get who could take the place of Cato.

    Yeah. Cato.

Cato, despite being a JVG favorite, might just be part of the bait we use in the summer to fortify the team.

Cato has played well this season, but often just doesn't match up well against the more mobile 4's.

If Cato can make his jumper consistently, Rox offense will be a totally difference story.

Recently, I start to dream about Rasheed Wallace being a Rox.

There's no need for him to become an offensive force like Mo.

All he needs to do is learn how to hit the regular, straight up 15-foot jumper regularly. I'm sure that, if he dedicated his entire offseason to it, he could do it. But how often dothese changes occur in the NBA?

I'll tell you how often. As often as underpaid C's suddenly becoming productive for their team in their LATE 20's and earning their contract. Hey.. it happens.

I think Spoon IS a combination of both Mo and Cato. He's a very good defender, and good rebounder. He can hit the jumpshot, but unfortunatly he can't finish on the inside as well as mo can. I've been very impressed by Spoon's defense, whether he's bodying up on Duncan or chasing guards on our pick and roll defense.
