I was going to ask in the hangout, but I know it will turn into an argument eventually, so here goes.

When are the Bush/Kerry debates going to happen, or are they going to debate at all?

Will Cheney accompany Bush to the presidential debates so he gives the right answers?

Wow. Florida, Ohio, and Missouri are battleground states, and hosting three of the debates. Most Arizonans I've met are fairly staunch Republicans, but still, obviously these stats were not chosen by accident.

Wow those states are important. But even more important, will there be math involved?

I wonder if Bush will try the "fuzzy math" line again.

Man, it seems like Washington University always gets a debate...

The dates and locations are not important. What is important are the terms of the debate. For instance, if they are all restricted to 2 minute answers/1 minute rebuttals, that favors Bush because he just has to memorize enough stuff on each general topic to make it through the alloted time. (Not to mention the fact that Kerry seems to have trouble when he has to communicate complex topics quickly.) I woulod like to see at least one where the candidates ask each other questions with enough time for a good give and take on each topic, but I doubt that will happen.

    My prediction...

1 debate where you have a moderator and three members of the media with a 2/1 minute restriction

1 debate where you have the audience asking questions with a 2/1 minute restriction

1 debate where you have one moderator who asks the questions with a 3/2 minute restriction

    Format

The candidates will be seated at a table with the moderator in the first and third presidential debates and in the vice presidential debate.

The second presidential debate will use the town meeting format in which undecided voters, selected by the Gallup Organization, will question the candidates.

Each debate will last for ninety minutes, start at 9:00 p.m. ET, and take place before a live audience.

The first presidential debate will focus primarily on domestic policy, and the third presidential debate will focus primarily on foreign policy. The town meeting debate and the vice presidential debate will be open to all topics.

    Moderators

Each debate will have a different single moderator to be selected by the CPD. The four moderators will be announced no later than September 10.

The moderators job in the first and third presidential debates and the vice presidential debate will be to introduce and change topics, to ensure that the participants have equal time, and to encourage some direct exchange among the candidates. The moderators will select all topics and questions.

In the town meeting debate, the town meeting participants will pose their questions to the candidates. The town meeting participants will review their questions with the moderator before the debate for the sole purpose of avoiding duplicate questions.

The moderators will have discretion to ask follow-up questions in all debates.

Will some idiot get to ask "Is God on our side?" or are useless questions like that not allowed?

Well if Bob Dylan can ask it, why not some idiot?

    :)

Oh my name it is nothin'
    My age it means less
    The country I come from
    Is called the Midwest
I's taught and brought up there
    The laws to abide
And that land that I live in
    Has God on its side.

Oh the history books tell it
    They tell it so well
    The cavalries charged
    The Indians fell
    The cavalries charged
    The Indians died
    Oh the country was young
    With God on its side.

    Oh the Spanish-American
    War had its day
    And the Civil War too
    Was soon laid away
And the names of the heroes
    I's made to memorize
    With guns in their hands
    And God on their side.

Oh the First World War, boys
    It closed out its fate
    The reason for fighting
    I never got straight
But I learned to accept it
    Accept it with pride
For you don't count the dead
    When God's on your side.

    When the Second World War
    Came to an end
    We forgave the Germans
    And we were friends
    Though they murdered six million
    In the ovens they fried
    The Germans now too
    Have God on their side.

    I've learned to hate Russians
    All through my whole life
    If another war starts
    It's them we must fight
To hate them and fear them
    To run and to hide
    And accept it all bravely
    With God on my side.

    But now we got weapons
    Of the chemical dust
If fire them we're forced to
    Then fire them we must
    One push of the button
And a shot the world wide
    And you never ask questions
    When God's on your side.

    In a many dark hour
    I've been thinkin' about this
    That Jesus Christ
    Was betrayed by a kiss
But I can't think for you
    You'll have to decide
    Whether Judas Iscariot
    Had God on his side.

    So now as I'm leavin'
    I'm weary as Hell
    The confusion I'm feelin'
    Ain't no tongue can tell
    The words fill my head
    And fall to the floor
    If God's on our side
    He'll stop the next war.

Will the candidates know the questions ahead of time or will they have prepared responses?

Will Bush have an earpiece through which Rove and such can give him answers?

Will the networks be forced to use a 7 second delay during the Cheney-Edwards debate?

I think they should also enact the three knock down rule.

I would guess the Bush camp will insist on having the questions ahead of time.
