This isn't a tank thread. IMO, it's more of a when we should stop giving Scola/Brooks/Ariza 40+mpgs thread. Or how to time it to prevent a repeat of "JVG screws up Brandon Roy".

    Western Conference standings

We are 4 games out of the 8th. Ignoring the other teams in the mix for a minute, for us to overtake Portland, we'd have to go 19-9 if they play .500 ball the rest of the way. That just goes to show you how big a run we have to go on to even have a chance.

Hollinger playoff odds puts us at 15% right now. However, the odds are skewed in our favor because of our incredible start against a very tough schedule(before the days when get killed by Phily and Indy). It also doesn't account for Thunder developing together nor Portland getting Camby.

So do you think we should start to hold back a bit some time soon? I know I've become a little paranoid given our injury histories, but I really don't want the Rockets get set back for next year, for what appears to be a lost cause. In particular, I'm most concerned about Brooks. I don't want him keep playing 40 minutes with Lowry out.

    I guess I'll reply...

I think it is time to start preparing for next season. We're not contending at all with this team. I'm pretty sure next season is in mind already for the Rockets.

    NOW !!!

Don't tank but start playing the young guys, this season is about the future, use it or lose it.

There is no need to play Battier and Hayes big minutes, probably Scola as well....let's find out if Hill, Budinger, Jeffries and Armstrong are any good.

Let's let Brooks and Martin build chemistry.

This is all about next year, and the years following...being an 8th seed is a worthless year.

If theres no mathematical chance to make it then i dont mind playing younger players..

However apart from that Play 100%

Champion teams and players always play 100% winning or losing by 100 points

    a killer mentality

    To all the "tanking" comments,

Are the following two scenarios the same?

    1. Sit Battier, and Hayes, start Budinger, play Hill major minutes, etc.
    2. Limit Brooks to 30mpg. Play Scola the same minutes he did back when Landry was around. Limit Battier's minutes. Have Armstrong and Hill play limited minutes to see how they look.

If you feel they are the same, then I am indeed advocating tanking. And I don't sorry about it. Otherwise, please make informative input rather than the cliched "tanking is for losers" post.

Play to WIN THE GAME...YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME!!!

Seriously, play to win and lets see what happens. When you're realistically done then just spread the minutes out more freely. I also want to see Martin get into a groove so that is one guy that should play out the season no matter what.

I think you sit or reduce the minutes of players who could use it to get over nagging injuries. No need to worsen them or risk further damage.

But beyond that, I still think Adelman should play to win. Sitting veterans who want and more importantly deserve court time is not necessarily a good thing. For example, don't play Hill over Scola if he doesn't deserve those minutes; send him down to the D-league instead.

We are currently in the 12th pick in Mock drafts, If the Bobcats win their next game and we lose our one(which is a possibility), we'll be in the 11th pick.....we could draft someone pretty talented at that pick(Whiteside, Montiejunas, Monroe).......I'm just saying !!

not gonna watch the playoffs maybe at all this year if the team doesn't make it. but I would like to see the rookies and Kevin Martin play more. I want the team to make the playoff and do whatever it takes to get there. If we can't make it then just tank all the rest of the games and try to get a higher pick in the draft.

I pretty sure last night when Adelman rolled out Temple - Martin - Budinger - Jerrfries - Armstrong for a signifigant stretch.....that was a pretty good indication that we are already *cough* developing *cough*

I thought the exact same thing when I saw that lineup trot out on the court.

They sure are subtle about it...

I am not sure the Rockets have given up on the playoffs. Right now there's a lot of new guys and changes so I think it's just taking a while for Adelman to figure out his rotation and find out what different guys can do.

There's plenty of time to make a run since we're only 2 games behind in the loss column with a lot of season left.

I think what you'll see is a few more games of experimentation. If they continue to struggle and fall more than 7-8 games in the loss column they may just play to develop guys. But if the team stays in close range and there are signs of gelling, I think you'll see a win now mentality.
