Did anybody notice that when Shaq was at LSU, he had a beautiful freethrow stroke? Why can't he do the same thing now? The same thing happened to Rodman, but this freak was just trying to miss shots. What's the problem with Shaq? Is it because of the weight increase, or his palm grew bigger after entering NBA?
His shot looked better but the truth of the matter is that he was not going to get better shooting like that. He practiced for hours a day using that stroke and his shot never got better because he's got a problem with being able to bend his knees, extend his arm, and flex his wrist all in unison (due to his large size). He uses his new way (although uglier) because it allows him to shoot the ball with less movement and rely more on his fingertips giving him better control of the ball. He has proven that with this new style he can go on 16/16 streaks of made free throws so it seems all that is missing is practice. However, seeing his lack of passion for hard work, I doubt he will ever become a 70% plus free throw shooter for a n entire season.
Where exactly did you hear that? I have a hard time believing that since he is one of the most coordinated big guys ever.
I remember him working with Magic Johnson and another coach/doctor who said that while Shaq was growing he had knee problems due to his size which have affected his ability to shoot in one fluent motion. He is easily one of the most coordinated big men ever in terms of speed and quickness and body control used in major motions but when it comes to the small motions such as flicking his wrist at the hight of his extension he is greatly lacking.
It wasn't that long ago that you could read stories about Shaq having his own set of keys to either a highschool gym or the UCLA one and that he'd spend hours in the middle of the night working on his free throws.
