For a couple of days I had this tingling feeling in my thumb and when I would wake up my forearms would sort of be asleep. I didnt really pay attention because it would go away... Anyways, Im at the gym this morning, and Im doing dumbbell curls and all of a sudden my hands turn this bright red, especially my right one, and my whole hand starts to tingle. Veins that normally dont appear are popping out of my right arm like Im on steroids or something.

Someone there told me it's like early symptoms of carple tunnel (sp) and I need to like rest for a couple of weeks to see if it goes away.

Is that what it is ? As I type this the swelling, redness, and numbness are gone.

Am I going to have to stop lifting weights completely or have to wear one of those wimpy arm things ? That would suck.

And go figure, the day after I get my heart broken, I start to get carpul tunnle (sp) syndrome... dont think I dont know the joke there   :( :) :(

LOL, sorry, I know it sucks and I read the other thread. But you calling the joke first was just really funny to me. As to whether you have carpal tunnel or not, I have no idea. Sorry that you are hurt though.

I do have a weight lifting injury story though. About 3 weeks ago I was working out before work with my buddy. We will doing flys on a bench. Well I'm done with my third set and I'm spent. Now mind you, I usually pull the dumbbells to my chest, sit up and set them down under the bench. Well this time I just go to drop them no knowing that my idiot friend had just set his down on both sides of the bench. So I drop a 35 lb dumbbell on my finger on to my idiot friends dumbbell. My finger blew up like a hot dog in a microwave. I was bleeding all over the damn place and because it was smashed, applying pressure to get the bleeding to stop was excrutiating. It is still scabbed over and is a little sore. I probably should have gone to the ER and gotten X-rays and stitches. I couldnt bend the damn thing for two weeks. I have been jonesing to get back in the gym. I'm gonna start again next week.

I used to get "forearm splints" aka shin splints in the forearms when I would do barbell curls.

I would try to do some other type biceps exercise that doesn't put as much pressure on the wrists like hammer curls.

I know I should not be saying this because I am the worst at not following this advice, but listen to your body. If it hurts too much, rest for a week; it might be the best thing you can do for your body.

The tingling, swelling (feeling), numbness sounds like carpal tunnel but the redness? hmmm.

As Mulder said, see a doc. If it is CTS, it can actually waste-away some muscles in your hand if left untreated. If it isn't, I'd want to know what's causing the redness. Maybe that's the arm's response when it has CTS and you try to lift weights, I don't know.

One time my girlfriend broke up with me while I was in the boot for 5 months. I had 3 tendons with tendinitis. She broke up with me about 3 weeks after I went into the boot. So all I could do is sit on the sofa and sulk. It was horrible. I couldn't even get up and go to the fridge to eat away the pain. So just remember, it could get even worse. But I'm in perfect health now. So everything comes around eventually.

If it doesnt go away by monday, I will see a doctor. I doubt something will happen between now and then that will make me regret my decision. (famous last words...)

I dont think I described the redness properly... it was my palms that were red... but like the red you get from lifting weights without gloves... the swelling just made it look different.
