I don't think most of the American public is in favor of Saudi Arabia and their religious policies. Presumably even the government of the US views our alliance with them as one of expediency, and not some grand agreement based on shared values. I would prefer we not ally with the Saudis, who are massive exporters of terror. I wish the global thirst for oil did not provide so much power and influence to such horrible people.

 

Generally Speaking . . . I don't think the government gives a damn about what The American Public thinks about foreign affairs.

There was a cartoon like this lampooning the response to the U.S.S. Cole bombing in the context of our previous operations in the middle east, probably won't see that kind of editorial after the late '90s.
