I'm talking about next year, just like gr8-1 is. Right?

    2003 basketball poll
    2003 baseball
2003 football has not happened yet right?

Okay, that's a good point. I'll try to find some television ratings.

More d-1 schools play baseball than hockey (I think it's a 2:1 ratio or more); I agree with RM95 that if there's an argument over the 3rd "big" sport, it's baseball vs. women's hoops. Track and field is big at some schools, but it's more on par with swimming and wrestling (at least prior to the Title IX massacre of wrestling programs).

I would think you'd go on the academic calendar of fall-spring:

    2002 football, 2002-3 basketball, 2003 baseball.

    Just my opinion.

Yeah, just like you do in high school.

No shot at the top 5 this year, but definitely top 10.

uh, well they are currently ranked #10 in basketball, and #14 in baseball, and their football program is on the rise.

I'd make a bet, but under my conditions, we'd have to wait until the summer of 2004 to determine a winner.

ok, i agree. got confused by gr8-1's criteria of "we did it last year" "can we next year" thing, as if assuming UT basketball will be top 10 more than once.

so, they have a shot *this year.* But why *next year.*

Maybe he's talking about top 5 next year, since we don't have a shot of that this year.

Well, that would mean that gr8-1 is assuming UT would be Top 5 in basketball and football next year, too, right, with nothing in the bank, yet. I read it as a calendar year regular season starting with BBall. nevermind.

so, you are assuming that UT will finish top 10 in basketball this year. Wouldn't that be their first time ever to do so?

Right. If TJ doesn't leave, they'll be top 5 preseason again. I think Erskin, who hasn't played much this season, is the only senior. He's also assuming that UT football will finish top 5, which I'd be more willing to bet on baseball and basketball finishing that high before I'd bet on the football team doing that good.

I am assuming that they'll finish in the top 10. Of course, any assumption about where college basketball teams will end up is misguided right up until the Elite 8, IMO. I think UT may have ended up in the top 10 a loooong time ago. I wanna say they made the final four in the 40s or something, but I'm not sure if they even kept rankings back then.

yeah, UT made the Final Four in the late 40s.

You don't have one top 5 this year, yet, at all, and you are discussing next year???

only UT fans would do that. ;)

Have you ever been top 5 in just two sports, much less three?

You've got losses to Notre Dame, Kansas and Arizona, giving you 1-3 against top 15 teams. You haven't played Oklahoma yet, and have an away with OSU, then your tournament, then the NCAAs. Look how fast Duke fell.

Yeah, this top 5 is in the bag this year, much less next year.

I don't know what is up with College Basketball right now, but you can count the number of times on one hand that a Big Ten team isn't in the Top 15, with only one in the Top 20. That's not going to happen much.

    Uh, last year.

All within 6 points, all with leads late in the second half, and two of the three away (and one, Notre Dame, at a neutral site).

Who said it was in the bag this year? I, a UT fan, even said it was "misguided" to predict college basketball final rankings until the Elite 8.

Of course, they're the only team that can do it. ;)

Oh that's right. You jumped 4 spots after a not-so convincing bowl victory to pass OU and go away thinking to yourselves that you really were better than Oklahoma that year. ;)

You know you didn't deserve to jump to #5 from #9 with a bowl victory over the #12 team. Football voting is weird.

OU finished in the top 10 in football, men's basketball and women's basketball last year. I think men's gymnastics finished #1 too!;)
