Can we try and acquire Webber as soon as the season is over, or do we have to wait until a certain date?

You can talk to free agents in July, but you can't sign or make trades until August 1st. Although, you can make trades on draft night.

Would you want to come to a team that's lost 3 out of 4 to the Clippers?

    1) Talent - Possibly the best backcourt in the NBA. Lots of draft picks on the horizon.
    2) Money, Good Management
    3) Large, Diverse City
    4) Team has fan support + new arena is on the way

    Where do I sign? [IMG]

I can't help but notice that Dallas every one of these chararteristics too.
    1) Steve Nash and Michael Finley
    2) Mark Cuban (plenty of money)
    3) Not quite as big as Houston but still very big
    4) American Airlines Center ready for 2001 -2002 season

That being said I don't think the Mavs have a very good chance at getting Webber, especially after picking up Juwon Howard. However, I never really knew that Houston had a shot at getting him either. I thought that C-Webb said that, IF he is going to leave, he wanted to play in New York with Latrell Spreewell. Do you have any reason to believe that he would want ot come here or is this all speculation?

C-Webb likes Detroit, Houston, and New York. I believe the Rockets are the only team that can pay him straight up without a sign and trade. My feeling is C-Webb may not want to play in Sac, but he is not gonna screw the Kings by not getting them compensation in return.

    5) C-Webb has family in Houston.

Actually, they recently split the Dallas-Ft. Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) in two so that Houston is bigger again. However, for an individual's purposes, DFW is a bigger knot of urban decay than Houston... if you're into that sort of thing.

    Not at the games.

I think that Houston is still an atractive city though.

Large, has something of a suburb, and is warm.

Not even mentioning the team that we have.

First off Houston has a larger population than dallas/ft. worth so I guess people want to live here.

    6. More NBA players live here than any other city, so Webber can have great practice over the summer.
    7. Dallas might have a good backcourt, but not the BEST and not Webber's FAVORITE.
    8. Rudy T is from the same alumni as Web and has a great rep with the players.
    9. Webber said he wants a night life, but also wants his space for peace of mind. Sacremento has the peace of mind, but no nightlife. New York has nightlife, but no room for peace of mind.
    10. Webber wants diversity and soul food.

    Houston's the place!!!

Not to mention that C-Webb played with Kevin Colson(and was best friends with), who I believe is either a cousin or brother of Current Houston Rocket, Sean Colson.

    1) Go ahead and throw in Nowitzki in there.
    2) No kidding. Not to mention he treats his players like kings.
    3) Dallas media market is actually bigger than Houston's, isn't it?
    4) And they have internet access from your seats too!!! wooo... or do all seats have that? I dunno, but it's still cool, anyway. lol.

Oh, and regarding the problems they face with signing Juwan and picking up Webber - how about getting Webber in a sign-and-trade for Juwan? Does that work out?

    2) I wouldn't mind being on the Mavs, even if I didn't play, as long as I got all of the perks. [IMG]

    3) Well, we have had a couple of posts regarding the size of our two cities/areas. Like Juan said, Houston is technically bigger but for our sake DFW is larger. I did some research and apparently Houston's metro pop is about 4.4 million people whereas DFW has 4.8 million ( 3.2 being Dallas and 1.6 being FW).

    4) I don't think Reunion Arena has internet access, but next year in the AA Center, I believe all lower level seating and luxury boxes will have high-speed internet access and an electrical outlet, so you can bring your laptop to the game. [IMG] Mark Cuban and his toys.

Hey, a sign-and-trade with Webber and Juwon would be awesome, as long we don't have to give up too much. Maybe we can get them to take Shawn Bradley too. [IMG]

BTW, how do you guys get the smiley face with big teeth? I only know how to get the regular smiley face.

Also (and sorry for those who have read me posting this up-teen times before) C-Webb told Craig Sager of TNT/TBS (off-camera) that he would prefer to stay in the West in a city preferably larger than Sacramento. His teammates would be important.

As far as soul food goes, the Sports Illustrated article went a long way in helping us. The players get together at Cat's (or Cat's mom's?) house the night before a home game for fried chicken, macaroni and cheese and sweet potatoes. Hell, if you look at me, you don't exactly think "soul food," but that article made ME hungry. Come on, C-Webb; get your butt over here to Houston!

Wow, with Cat's mom's home-made soul food, you guys are a shoe in to get Webber. [IMG] I think the soul food issue may be the "soul" reason that C-Webb doesn't come to Dallas.

(The pun was oringinally unintended, but once I realized it I couldn't resist.)

In the event that we don't land Chris Webber, who else is available that might help us?
