When Butler fell to 9, why didn't we trade up for him??

I've been out of the country for a while, so it's good to finally be at Clutchcity.net, especially during this exciting time!!!

I'm really thrilled w/ Ming, and Nachbar was a steal at 15 and could be a terrific player forus and the NBA. Howevr, when Caron Butle dropped to 9 or 10, why didn't the Rockets put a substantial package together to try and trde up ad nab him? I was nervous and overjoyed when he fell so far, and I kept thinking, any minute, Stern is going to come up and annonce the trade.

Do you think we had enough artilary to trade up for that pick (5 or 6 spots)??? KT and #15 could have satisfied itpossibly.

Oh well, I like Nachbar already, and he'll turn out to be one hellava player for us. What's done is done, but it stil would have been pimp to come out of this draft w/ Ming and Butler...2 of he top 5 talents in this draft.

I think Phoenix really wanted Amare, a player who probably would'ntve been available at #15. There was no way Riley was going to deal down when he got a shot at Butler, so #10 is out. Maybe #8 with the Clippers, if they weren't possibly dealing it for Andre Miller.

    Nachbar's a nice consolation, though.

I imagine the Rockets might have tried, but didn't have enough to offer. Cleveland tried to get the Clips to pick him up for them, but everything they and the Clips tried that night was just a second too late apparently.

Then again, they might not have because they really wanted Nachbar. If it were Dunleavy, I bet they would have gone the extra mile. I'm not so sure with Butler since he is a little on the short side.

The trade up would have been preety difficult to pull off for the reasons mentioned in the above posts. Maybe offering Griffin and the #15 but even that would have been a stretch and I wouldn't want to trade Griffin anyway, cuz like you said, Butler is only 6'5" and will probably end up being a SG in the NBA.

I don't think the Suns were going to risk losing Stoudamire, which was smart. He was the only player left that made any sense for them. In fact, the Wizards already had a trade set up with the Magic. If Stoudamire fell to 11th, the Wiz were going to take him and then trade him and Jahidi White for Mike Miller. So Amare wouldn't have lasted very long. Smart move by the Suns to just take him.

..and I agree with kidrock. Why is Butler such a sure thing? There's been plenty of players in college who have put up the same numbers as him and haven't been spectacular in the NBA. Hell, there's been players with better basketball skills and better athleticism than Butler, who weren't tweeners that have not been great NBA players. Just remember, the same morons who say Yao Ming is a sure-thing bust are - for the most part - the same ones hyping up Butler by saying he'll be rookie of the year.
