Meh, this may be a waste of a thread, but... When is any team in the NBA allowed to talk deals and such? I know after the NBA finals (Duh!), but, is there a set date when all cannons are allowed to fire?
I think there's pretty much a moratorium on all trade talks (although I'm sure they still happen) from the trade deadline until about 1 week after the Finals are over. I could be wrong though
Although I hate the offseason following a disappointing first round exit, the excitement and buildup of the offseason is just amazing. I love how boards like this come together and give opinions on who should be chased after, who should be drafted. The Offseason is always fun, even if it does have it's downsides (drafting Gay, then trading for Bats)
Me too! actually I'm really really really excited about the offseason, even to an extent more than the regular season. (I'm talking about June July trade busy months tho). I wanted to say what u said but didnt think an entire thread was worth it...
I agree. The one thing about the off season is that it's filled with optimism. Nobody has ever lost a game from July to September. I found something else to help answer your question. There is a moratorium during which teams can negotiate BUT NOT SIGN free agents. It starts July 1st and ends July 8th this season. Then after July 8th, I believe they wait for the updated Collective Bargaining Agreement to come out in the next few days (or maybe it comes out on July 9th). Then (I think) it's all systems go.
I guess perhaps the CBA has been altered since then but Chris Webber was traded for Mitch Richmond during the NBA playoffs. If those rules still exist then... Teams are free to deal players under contract.
I'm pretty sure there's a trade deadline. I think most teams would rather wait till the playoffs, as the draft nears and everyone knows where they stand. It would probably suck if a deal like that happened and the team noticed a glaring weakness during the playoffs. They could win the lottery after a decent season and get a guy that changes their trade plans. Its never a good ideal to make transactions hastily as a knee jerk reaction to the past season. The organization needs some time to step back and analyze whats needed going foward.
I'm from SAC so I'd like to know what happened there and why you brought it up. It would be kind of cool to recap on.
