I just want to see what the rest of the bbs thinks about the Dorsey pick...as I am pretty disappointed and to an extent angered by it!

    this is my personal opinion:

the dorsey pick is a really bad pick...just look at who was still available at that pick:

    Mario Chalmers
    Deandre Jordan
    Chris Douglas-Roberts
    Richard Hendrix
    Ante Tomic

    Why didnt we get CDR?!!
I'd have been content with CDR at no.25 if there were few other better players available. I was dreaming, and I was dreaming realistically that we'd pick CDR to cover our big weakness at backup wing which is occupied fulltime by Luther Head!!! If Morey had picked CDR it would have been a near absolute perfect draft starting with a mere no.25 pick. CDR fills a need and he is a real prospect!! He is supposedly a first rounder on many mock drafts, including the ESPN one with tremendous authrity.........

those are just 5 of the quality projected first-rounders that were on the table. And it was perfectly presented there for the taking! Chalmers was projected to go as high as even in the lottery and we don't even take him in the 2nd round with our PG problem?!!

So we a need a backup C desperately right? Would the local boy who was projected in the lottery be the right pick? As much as I love Morey, apparently he thought it was better to take a onedimensional chuck hayes 2.0..!!

I thought, and Clutchfans thought that we were very high on Hendrix??!! wasnt it said he had a great workout here??!! And he can score unlike this Dorsey dude who apparently is tough...hm

Punking Utah of Tomic would score a very happy smile from many of us I'd think...

I cannot but feel that we've missed out on a big opportunity here...

Don't get me wrong I am very pleased about everything else that we did today...and I cannot but have praise for the ingeniousity of Morey.

    your views?

i'm going to agree on deandre jordan (little biased, my wife works with his dad). A seven footer to back up yao, with athleticism. however, i also like dorsey alot so I'm not going to complain.

Dorsey is not an undersized pf he is an undersized Center.
He is different from Chuck Hayes.
He is bigger , much longer , super strong and super athletic.
His size won't be an issue imo because he has a long wingspan and thats what matters.

He is a backup Center who can also play pf , he will get us extra possesions , and block or alter a lot of shots on defense.

On offense he is very poor , he has no jumper at all , terrible free throw shooter , and his hands are not great he will fumble a lot of passes.

He will dunk with authority all the layups Chuck misses though.

I prefer CDR and especially Cahlmers over him , but it's not a bad pick too.

something got to be wrong with chalmers and CDR for them to fall so low.
about tomic, its another project that we have no idea how will it turn round, for the past couple of years, big euro centers have not live up to their expectation.

oh well, brooks and landry came out from no where, lets hope the same thing happen.

Did you even watch Dorsey play in college? Chuck Hayes? This dude is a physical beast with attitude. He can actually jump and finish at the rim. He might be the worst free throw shooter the league has seen since Larry Smith, but this was great fit for the Rockets. Dorsey is your Deke replacement as a backup center. Go back and watch the Final Four game against UCLA and watch this guy own Kevin Love in the paint. Then watch the championship game and see how helpless Memphis was on the glass when Dorsey was out of the game in foul trouble. Dorsey is exactly the guy I would want protecting the back of finesse players like Yao and Scola. He'll be a rotation guy by the middle of the season.

I get that we were hot on getting size at the 4 to avoid another year of smurf forwards behind Scola (Hayes, Harris, Landry), but geez. We let two ready to play guys at need positions slip past us. Arthur would be fine at the 3 and be a great compliment to Battier. CDR would have been a perfect fit as a reserve SG.

I think Dorsey will pan out, at least as a reserve, since he's such a beast. Nothing upstairs or in his chest though.

Donte Green.....prove me wrong, but I think that was a huge mistake.

Chalmers is a very good player and could be come a starter if not a pretty nice PG

But Dorsey is very strong on the boards and in the paint.

Dorsey is a much better defender than Landry, Scola or Hayes.

He is very aggressive and athletic.

If he has any offense at all he will be very nice off the bench and help us alot with match ups, for one thing you won't have to worry about who to put on Carlos Boozer.

Dorsey is a big man, NBA ready.

The big men available in the 2nd round are a bunch of tall stiffs with no athleticism and no game. While Dorsey will never be a good offensive player, he can certainly run with the team, finish easy baskets and get offensive rebounds. He also has the athleticism, hustle and instincts to be huge boost on the defensive end. While he's a bit short as a center, I think he makes it up with his long wingspan. It's pretty rare to find a productive player in the 2nd round, much less one that can produce right away. I think Morey found one in Dorsey.

Greene is a better pickup than CDR. However, I was pleased with the Batum draft and enraged when we traded him for Arthur and Dorsey (two smallish PFs when we already had three the same size -- Arthur is 6-9 but weighs only 215 while Dorsey weighs 265 but is only 6-7).

I felt so much better about Morey when he got Greene + a 2009 second rounder from Memphis. Of course, I still don't forgive him for the Rudy Gay trade.

Dorsey makes Hayes, not Landry, expendable. Their free throw shooting is equally bad, but Dorsey is a slight upgrade. I still don't understand why we didn't tell Portland to draft CDR for us, but perhaps Morey thinks Gerald Green has much more potential.

As much as Dorsey isn't an "upside" pick. I have to agree that he is yet another big man who will bring the beef down low and gobble up rebounds.

He reminds me of a young Ben Wallace (FT Shooting included)

Dorsey is the next Ben Wallace. Have u seen this guy's body? It's ripped. He moves ppl around like its nothing. His shoulders are huge! Plus he's good on pick and roll coverage and he's surprisingly long and has good timing. He's got good hands too. He just needs to work on them freethrows.

    I agree.

A draft of Green and CDR would have been great. (Back-up 2 and 3 who can score)

A draft of Green and Jordan would have been great. (Back-up 3 and 5 to replace Deke eventually)

To draft Green and Dorsey, when we already have a plethora of PF types....not so sure about that one.

    Obviously Hayes days are numbered, but I really don't feel comfortable with a 6'7" PF/C as a long-term back-up C solution.

I agree matt, the chuck hayes comparison is ridiculous. chuck will lose his roster spot eventually because of this guy.

This is truth. Dorsey is a nba type beast I have seen this guy play many times this the best NOW pick of the draft for the rockets. We are getting tougher under the rim I want to see Dorsey and Landry at the 4 and 5 with Tracy, Brooks and Francis penetrating and dishing.

I watched Dorsey play the last two years in college. To borrow a phrase, he's Chuck "on steroids", including the rage. He isn't very bright either. If Dorsey keeps his mouth shut, stays focused and doesn't develop an attitude problem, he'll be OK I guess. If he makes the team, either one of Chuck or Mike Harris (maybe both) are outta here.

Those of you in love with CDR should reconsider. If you watch how he scored in college, that won't translate well to the NBA. I'm glad we passed on him. In fact, it makes sense to me that Dorsey was drafted before him.

Dorsey seems a little under-sized to play the 4-5 spots.

Chuck Hayes is like 6'4 and has played a lot of minutes at center for us.
