Here is my approach: 1) Always try to get the best player available. The guy who gets the best player in a trade usually wins. 2) Try to do as many 2-1 or 3-2 deals as possible. Usually, you can pick up a guy who is decent from the waiver wire. 3) Rather fall behind a bit in games instead of rushing out with too many games played. It allows you to adjust better later. 4) Make sure you monitor the waiver wire and act quickly if a guy seems to be entering a hot streak. 5) Know the typical streaky players. There are some which are great for stretches, but disappear for stretches of games as well. Get a feeling for when the good streaks start. 6) Don't pay too much attention to scoring. It is just one of many categories, and people seem to pay too much attention to it. 3 threes per game are usually more valuable than 20 points per game. 7) Identify the potential "trade victims" in your league, and try to get onto AIM chats with them. The better you are at selling them a deal, the better your team will quickly become. 8) Try to corner a market, if you can afford it, in "hard to get" categories. If you have excess three-point shooters or block specialists, you might be able to sell them later for more than they are worth. 9) Don't forget to move your players. Nothing worse than having a superstar on the bench for a game. If you are offline for a few days, make sure your stars are not on the bench. 10) Max out your games played. In ESPN, you can have 829 games, not 820, if you have 10 games on the last day. Make sure you check that your players will be active and that they will not be rested on the last day for the playoffs already; otherwise, play someone else. What's your strategy?
1. Have a good draft. Trades don't seem to happen in our leagues anymore, so if you don't have a good draft, you're screwed.
or don't draft the guy that is going to be suspended for socking a fan (JO) although if I remember it was him or Yao and I weathered the JO storm and I am finally fighting my way back to respectability and I am liking my team much more than I would have if Yao would have been my first pick.
I am faithful to drafting the star/proven players round 1 thru 5, including drafting an oft injured player like Kidd, (Garnett-Carter-Kidd-Hughes-Gasol) then I gamble on one rookie if I'm lucky because I trust the #1 and #2 pick to be extremely successful (did not happen this year), and then I draft according to sporting news rankings because they know more than I do (Finley - tinsley-Hart-Dampiere) . I can usually hit about a 50% success rate with sporting news, which is all I need to close out my roster. Then I cut the two bums that didn't work out like Sweetney and fill out my roster with scrubs. And this year it's gonna work. After the draft: I don't usually monitor the waiver wires in basketball, because most good players are gone already, but I try to upgrade a little. I barely trade because frankly, it's hard to get done. Everybody wants to rip me off and I try just as hard to rip them off. I like the star player, so they are hard to get for a bunch of overachieving ones.
My approach has always been to draft a player who fills up the stat sheet, and then get guys who can get certain categories, like scorers and rebounders.
Keeping up with it every day (same thing goes for baseball) is too much for me. That is why I like fantasy football as you only have to worry about things by the week.
Have a good draft and try not to have 2 of your better players which includes your #2 pick suspended for part of the season or for the whole season. In most seasons, I can avoid that... for some odd reason, I could not this season.
1) Screw roto and cats. 2) Try to be flexible in the draft so that you don't feel trapped into taking a certain player due to position needs. Also keep in mind relative value due to position tiers when ranking the best player available. 3) don't ever give up on Kenny "mad dog" Thomas too early.
What's my strategy? On December 26th, I was offered a trade by the guy ahead of me (I'm second in my league). For whatever reason he was willing to trade: ·Hill, Grant F ORL ·Hinrich, Kirk G CHI ·Redd, Michael G MIL for my guys: ·Francis, Steve G ORL ·Jefferson, Richard F NJ I ignored it for weeks and finally he instant messages me last week sayin he would be willing to alter it by adding Jamison or Walker. I told him I would acept or conteroffer or at least let him know by the end of the night. Today he instant messages me again saying "Sorry to hear about Jefferson." With that, I remember that pending trade and got this response 5 minutes ago via e-mail... Subject: BS yo offer the trade the 26th totlly dont even remember i have the offer on the table and now jan 14th he accpets the deal when the fact RJ out for the year BS man ****ing bs..please reject God I love being an *******.
i pay attention to key injuries , then pick up replacement players and ive done a pretty good job. last year i had flip murray and this year i have bobby simmons and a bunch of Pacers starters, like reggie and jamaal...(i lost ron artest this season but i dominate my league by 27 points in our head to head league) i play team members, like marion and joe johnson, arenas and haywood, boozer and okur,etc... ... i even play starters for bad teams... b. knight(bobcats) is second in the league in assists and of course i always pick up a Rocket. this year it was bobby sura, based on his play last year as a starter for the Hawks(who i picked up)
