I know everyone here would probably like the Astros and Yankees to face off in the World Series, but I would prefer the Astros against the Red Sox. There would be more drama in this series with Clemens going against the franchise that got rid of him while playing for his home team Astros. We would face two great pitchers in Pedro and Schilling, and a very potent Boston lineup. Oh, yeah don't forget that Bagwell would get a chance to play against his childhood team. What are your thoughts on this?

I prefer Astros vs. Red Sox. That way, at least one curse would be destroyed. Plus, if that is the matchup, I am committed to obtaining tix so my cousin in Boston and her husband, both die-hard Red Sox fans, can come down for the Series. And, if it comes to that, I will!!!!

If this is a preference thing I would like to see the Astros playing the Port Lavaca Snad Crabs freshmen B team. But given the actual choices I want the Pin Stripes.

    Brad Lidge and Mike Mussina

I was looking at the picture of Mussina on the fron page of MLB.com. These two dudes look alike, and both are pretty nasty on the mound. What do you guys think? I know its a random thread, but I was bored.

For drama, an Astros-Red Sox World Series would be tops.

But I think we have a better shot at beating the Yankees.

The Sox's combination of Martinez-Schilling might prove too much for our on-again off-again hitting, whereas I think the Yankees pitchers will be much more hittable.

I think the Sox will choke against the Yankees, and we'll take down New York easily and violently.

    Yankees have no soul.

I said before the playoffs started that the Red Sox were the one team that really scared me. With that combination of pitching and hitting, I don't want any part of them, even with all the curses in the world. I'll take the Yanks.

I'm in Boston and have watched a lot of Red Sox baseball. I hope it will be an Astros/Red Sox series so I can potentially go to a game, and because someone's bad luck will end. On the other hand, I think the Red Sox will be much harder to beat than the Yankees. I think we can hit Yankees pitching, and I think our pitching can control them well enough. It will be very difficuly to get much against Schilling and Martinez, and Arroyo has looked pretty good himself. On the other side of the ball, Manny and Ortiz are very very scary. Watching these two guys hit is really something. If you throw a mistake to them in Minute Maid, it's gonna be a long ball. In my opinion Manny is the best hitter in the game. Look at his numbers of the past 6 years, just insane.

All that being said, no matter who the Astros play at this point, I have to believe they can beat anyone.

Either way, the whole nation will be watching. If we play the Yankees, the fans will adore us. If we play the Sox I'm guessing it will be 50/50 split nationally.

I would have loved to see a all TX World Series but a Houston / Boston Series would be suffice and of course Houston winning it all.

    Battle of the 'stons. LOL

I would love to see the Astros beat the Yankees for the title for two reasons. First: if the pinstripes are in, there's no way the media can ignore the series. Second: it's been 10 years since a Houston team beat a NY team for a title (1994 Rockets), so I figure it's about time we school 'em on the meaning of "clutch" one more time. ;)

More like 100% behind the Red Sox. You've never seen Sportscenter, have you? ;)

Yankees vs. Cardinals. I would like to see the top teams from each league facing off against each other, and both of them have 100+ wins. There are also no 2 lineups more stacked than those. Second to that would be a Yankees vs. Astros matchup so the Bombers can pound the Rocket for "retiring" right to the Astros when they really could have used him (and after they got him a WS ring too, ungrateful). Astros vs. Sox would be the worst, because that is the best chance the Red Sux have of reversing the curse, and the end of it would never be heard. My prediction remains Yanks over 'stros.

Clemens vs. the Yankees or Clemens vs. the Sox is simply a great storyline to follow. Gonna be a fun ride.

The first exhibition game in the Astrodome was with the Damn Yankees, and Mantle hit the first home run. Why not play our first Series against them? There's some symmetry there, somewhere.

I went to games with my Dad at Colt Stadium while the Dome was being built. I remember the mosquitos being terrible. So were the Astros. Now it's finally come around to this, a gorgeous ballpark and seriously having a shot at the World Series. Amazing!

(damn, I feel like I'm walking on eggshells... let's just get there!)

Nothing would be better than beating the Evil Empire ...

... except for beating the Mets in the NLCS and then beating the Yankees!
