I'm sitting here listening to "Hit Em Up" by Tupac, and I realized that this song has got to be one of the best in this category. It's my favorite, hands down. But there's a whole bunch of them out there. You don't even have to be a fan of the particular artist to go "Damn, that's some hardcore stuff right there."

Some feuds that did a lot of inspiring:

    Ja Rule/Irv Gotti - 50 Cent/DMX/Busta Rhymes, etc.
    2Pac/Death Row - Biggie/Bad Boy
    Eminem - ICP/Cannibus/Esham/Benzino/Many more
    Jay Z - Nas
    Dr. Dre - Jermaine Dupri/Eazy E
LL Cool J - Kool Moe Dee
    Beanie Sigel/Roc-a-fella - Jadakiss

The Eminem ones I listed begat some of the funnier songs and one-liners. "Slim Anus" (ICP) was hilarious, IMO; but so was Eminem's rebuttal in "Marshall Mathers".

So what's your favorite diss record? I'd like to hear some of the lyrics if they're not too offensive.

The all-time greatest diss record ever is "Hit 'Em Up" by 2Pac featuring The Outlawz. I have never heard an album with such venom and fury before. Besides any time you start off a song with "That's why I f*cked yo b**** you fat motherf*cker"....I'm speechless.

    "Hit 'em Up."

No doubt about it, the biggest diss song of all time. My favorite part is when he went off at the end.

Now you tell me who won
I see them, they run [ha ha]
    They don't wanna see us
    Whole Junior Mafia click
    Dressing up to be us
How the **** they gonna be the Mob?
When we always on out job
    We millionaire's
    Killing ain't fair
But somebody got to do it

    Oh yah Mobb Deep [uhh]
    You wanna **** with us
    You Little young ass mutha-****as
Don't one of you *****s got sickle-cell or something
You ****ing with me, ***** ?
You **** around and catch a siezure or a heart-attack
You better back the **** up
Before you get smacked the **** up
This is how we do it on our side
Any of you *****s from New York that want to bring it,
    Bring it.
    But we ain't singing,
    We bringing drama
**** you and your mother ****ing mama.
We gonna kill all you mother ****ers.
Now when I came out, I told you it was just about biggie.
Then everybody had to open their mouth with a mother ****in opinion
Well this is how we gon' do this:
    **** Mobb Deep,
    **** Biggie,
**** Bad Boy as a staff, record label, and as a mother ****in crew.
And if you want to be down with Bad Boy,
    Then **** you too.
    Chino XL, **** you too.
    All you mother ****ers,
    **** you too.
    (take money, take money)
    All of y'all mother ****ers,
**** you, die slow mother ****er.
My fo' fo' (.44 magnum) make sure all yo' kids don't grow.
You mother ****ers can't be us or see us.
We mother ****in' Thug Life riders.
    West Side till' we die.
    Out here in California, *****
    We warned ya'
We'll bomb on you mother ****ers.
    We do our job.
You think you the mob, *****, we the mother ****in' mob
    Ain't nuttin' but killers
And the real *****s, all you mother ****ers feel us.
Our **** goes tripple and four quadruple
You *****s laugh cuz our staff got guns under they mother ****in' belts
You know how it is and we drop records they felt
    You *****s can't feel it
    We the realist

Oh, another of my favorites and one of the more coy and encrypted songs is "U Ain't Bone" (Bone Thugs-n-Harmony). The whole song is a diss to Crucial Conflict and Do or Die, but you would never know it, save for Layzie's line that twists some of Conflict's and Do or Die's popular song hooks into a death threat.

"Toss em in the trunk of the caddy on the way to the [/i]rodeo[/i], killing off carbon copies."

That entire Art of War album was full of disses to "Bone Clones".

You also forgot to list the famous feud between Ice Cube and Common.

Did Bone ever diss Three 6 Mafia? I know Three 6 dissed them a lot but I never heard a comeback from Bone, in fact every rapper from the city of Memphis, TN has dissed Bone. Why?

dallas... there's not really any competition. "hit'em up" is a classic.

currently, i'd have to go with eminem versus george bush. can't beat a diss that gets the secret service's attention. ;)

One of the best disses to Bone just came out of Memphis, I can't remember who it was, but he went off. Apparently Bone did a magazine interview for Source and basically dissed Three 6 and Memphis in general. Krayzie also had a verse in one song ("We Ain't Said No Names", I think) referring to Three Six.

    (Paraphrasing)
"****, dog I done told 'em, we'll erode 'em. Hoes ain't got no scrotums. Slip in a clip and reload 'em, and when they jump we gon' unload 'em. Hit 'em wherever, however they want it. Make sure no one's alive or left to identify me - It ain't over until you die."

Apparently quite a few I would've said have been mentioned including the one with asterisks for lyrics... geez. Anyway, how about :

3rd Bass : "Pop Goes the Weasel" (diss of vanilla ice)
    Eminem : "Quitter"

And just for some old school fun :

    UTFO : "Diss"

    UTFO : "Roxanne Roxanne"
...and its response "diss" song that probably kicked off the "response diss" rap :

    Roxanne Shante : "Roxanne's Revenge"

Tupac "Hit 'em Up" was the first song I though of when I saw this thread. My favorite lines:

"Grab your glocks when you see Tupac, Call the cops when you see Tupac."

    "WestSide! BadBoy Killaz!"

"You claim to be a playa, but I fu**ed your wife."

"Now you about to feel the wrath of a menace."
