That thing is crap. I'm 6'0, 210 right now, and this says I'm nearly obese. In fact, I would have to way less than 130 to be underweight. A measure for sex would help. I'm far from fat.
Yeah I went to the doc and he told me that with a BMI of 25.1 I need to be careful as I'm on the road to obesity. I've gotten a lot of laughs from telling that one. I mean 5'9 and 170... I work construction, there aren't a lot of obese guys hauling 6,000 lbs of shingles up a ladder each day.
Which is why this is crap. A BMI for a 6'0 male at 11.1 = 82 lbs.!!!! 13.4 = 99 lbs. 19.8 = 146 lbs. That would make you one dead anorexic. BTW, I weighed 160 when I graduated High School, and I hadn't even really filled out, yet.
considering i started college this past September, which means i have gained 14 pounds in a mere 4 month...
It says I'm overweight with a 26.8 BMI. I run 6 miles a day, play basketball, swim and compete in triathlons. I'm 5'8" and 176 lbs.
its purely based on body weight, it doesnt take into consideration the different between muscle mass and fat mass. thus some one like Yao will have a body mass of 26.9 which is overweight but Yao by no means is over weight.
This thing is pretty much bull****, remember how according to this 80% of NFL players were overweight. It does not take into account body structure or muscle mass whatsoever, purely based on height and weight.
HAHAH.. Whatever.. if the magical computer tells me 20.4 is normal... I'M PERFECT!! I'm off to eat a few BigMacs..
I think BMI is a decent indicator of health. Even if you are real swoll eventually if you don't do anything that muscle will turn to fat and then you will be unhealthy. Some Atheletes after their career suffer from obesity.
