I didn't watch any of Yao's games but it seems to me that the only 'off' part of Yao's game has been the fact that he has gotten into foul trouble and the that he wasn't shooting enough.

Can Yao be faulted for not shooting enough? I don't think so, not if the Chinese guards are as bad as everyone is saying.

So what is Yao's shooting percentage for the tournament? 80% or something? I don't know, I'm asking.

That's amazing, do any of you know any of the US players fg%. I am very curious to see how Ming stacks up to these guys as far as fg% goes, I get the feeling that Yao is shooting better than any of the US players are shooting.

Yes. He has always been a high percentage shooter. He'd rather pass to the open man than take a bad shot. That's why he probably won't get a very high number of shots and points with the Rox and therefore hampers his chances of getting the ROY award.

But if the voters look beyond his number and see how he makes his team better, he should not be snub.

72% ? That is terrible, that means he is missing more then 1/4th of his shots.

I can't believe we wasted the first pick in the draft on this guy.

72%.......sheesh, he really needs to practice more.

;)

Cato could make 72% of his shots in the WC, too. He would be 3/4 in 5 games.

The scary thing is that those numbers are DOWN! Coming into the U.S. game he was shooting 75% from the field!

Brand is shooting 67.7% from the field off of 21 of 31 shooting. This is with OUTSTANDING guard play, quality big men, and no double teams. Meanwhile Ming, with no help, getting double and triple-teamed is shooting 71.1 % (updated), off of 27 of 38 shooting! I think that is what impressive me. Brand has been a MONSTER in this tournament yet Ming is shooting better from the field. Also keep this in mind, the #1 field goal shooter last year was Shaq, 57.9% from the field. Brand was second 52.7% from the field. Ming's numbers are actually dropping as the guard play gets worse. The Chinese guards were actually playing better early. By the way, Davis is averaging 4.6 assist per game, 3.2 assist, Pierce 3.8 assist, and Finley 3.6 assist. China's best guard is averaging slightly over 2 assist per game.

I think Yao should keep on shooting until his average gets to about 55%. If you can keep you average above 50%, then there is no reason to give up the rock.

Other stats from team USA's big men-

Davis 13/24 %54.2
O'neal 13/30 %43.3
Wallace 11/26 %42.3
LaFrentz 7/13 %53.8
Brand 21/31 %67.7

Yao Ming 27/38 %71.1

Brand has an awesome shooting percentage. Ming's is better, and is the absolute focus of the opposing defense operating in a true zone.

edit: Pau Gasol is 28/40 2pters for %70. Wow. Combine it with 2/10 3pters and it's 30/50 overal at %60.
Vlade is 14/22 %63.6
Nowitzki 26/54 %48.1 2pt and 6/29 %20.7 3pt, 32/83 overall %38.5

Thank you for answering this everyone, I wonder what his percentages will be in the NBA I can't see them below %50. Then again I also understand that these rules are very different I can't wait to see let's hope for the best.
