OK, I have been breaking down boxes and other fun things involved after a move. Every now and then I take a break - watch TV or get online, whatever. Anyway, we do not have cable, only a little antenna that gets very little so I am relegated to watching things I do not normally see...like Regis and _____ and the Rosie show. So on Rosie's show there was this female version of backstreet boys called "Dream" completely pre-fabricated (they even admitted that) and bad music, etc. Anyway, they were out in skimpy clothes - like Spears wore at the Super Bowl) dancing around and I am thinking they are 18 or so - fully developed, gonna be sex symbols for little boys, etc...anyway Turns out they were 15 years old! I think one was 16. Look, I am not that old, but they sure had me fooled. I do not remember that from when I was 15. Then, they hd Jessica Alba on. Now, I have had limited experience with her - postly ads for the tv show and pics posted in this forum by lonely guys...but I was shocked to find out that she is only 19. I would have thoght at least 21 and would have believed 25. Of course, as soon as they opened their mouths (the 4 "Dream" girls and Alba) they turned into "little girls" and were completely vapid. Still, I wonder...is it science...excess protein...what...that is causing these kids to develop so quickly. It is not just makeup/costume. I do not buy that. Remember when high school kids were played by twentysomethings and twentysomethings were played by 30 year olds? Now, high school kids can be played by middle schoolers and so on down the line. It is odd. Any thoughts? What does this do for dirty old men and the like. More negatively, for child molesters. It makes children even more appealing to grown men. A couple of weeks ago I was sitting in a bar having a drink and minding my own business. This really beautiful woman sits down on the stool next to me and we start chatting. Come to find out she was only 18 YEARS OLD! Now she could have passed for late 20s early 30s easy! I was shocked! I'm with you Rimy! When I was working at a music store in the early 90's a girl came in with her parents and they were looking to buy her a guitar and amp for her birthday. She looked young in the face but she had the body of a 24-year-old. I assumed she was turning at least 18, maybe 19 or 20. After talking to them a few minutes, I found out it was her birthday and asked how old she was going to be. She said, "12"!!!! TWELVE!!??? I was floored! IMO it has a great deal to do with the hormones in dairy cattle. There is a long-term study being done of women and their menstrual cycles and preliminary findings show that women in the US have had their puberty move from beginning around 15 or 16 in the 1960's to around 11 or 12 today as compared with women in China who still reach puberty around 15 or 16. Because female hormones like progesterone are fed to dairy cattles for increased yield and that process began in the 60's, there is a distinct correlation. Scientists are now studying the effects of that change. Since women in China don't get much dairy in their diet, their mentruation hasn't changed. However, in America, it has. Some scientists suggest that the increased hormones could lead to an increased risk of breast cancer and osteoparosis in women among other problems. For men, the problem is the opposite, though not as distinct. Boys are reaching puberty later than before but only by about a year or two. Obviously, progesterone doesn't have as great an effect on the male body as it does on the female. Overall, I think it is fairly obvious to the naked eye (all puns intended) that girls are growing up faster physically. ------------------ Me fail English? That's unpossible.

I thought Dream was a bunch of white girls that look like they're 18 who sing "He Loves Me He Loves You Not" Either way, dang ya'll are right. Girls are comin up faster and look older than they are. Like the other day I saw this one group called 3LW (3 Little Women) and their faces look like they're 14-15 but there bodies look 18ish. I read somewhere the other day that they are 15. Actually, I WAS dating a 25-year old and I'm 18. I don't think that there's anything wrong with it, as long as the relationship isn't BASED on the physical aspects of it. I enjoyed dating her because she was far more mature than most of the young women my age (intellectually ) And we never encountered any problems--till she thought I was cheating on her, but that's another story altogether... ------------------ Jazzkiller
Well, I am 29, and I've dated someone fairly recently who is 23, which is almost the same age difference as 18 to 25. It wasn't really any big deal for us. There are some younger people who are simply more mature than their ages would suggest (and there are some people like me who are far more immature than our ages would suggest, so dating younger women is really kind of necessary). Of course, my Dad's current wife was born the year my Dad graduated high school, so maybe dating younger women is just in me genes. (If I follow Dad's example, my third wife is in the 6th grade right now, which happens to be the grade my older son is in. I don't see any problem with dating younger women or older women dating younger men. Recently, a fairly young teacher who was jailed for 3 years for having a relationship with his 16-going-on-17-year-old student married her. She is now 20 and he is like 28. According to this article, Ever-Younger Puberty Puzzles Researchers In 1997, a landmark study of 17,000 girls found that the average starting age of puberty had dipped a year from previous studies of Caucasian girls, to 9.7 years. Note the "...long term physical and mental health impact of early puberty..." I'm just glad the baby my wife and I just had is a boy... less headache (well, in certain things...) Gee..., I hope not because I met my wife when she was 18.5 and I was 24. IMHO, the age thing is only relevant if your interests are generation specific. I have to admit though, I've been called "cradle robber" a couple of times by co-workers before. In jest, of course.
Jeff, I'm sure the reason for the jail sentence there wasn't the age difference, per se, but the possible abuse of power by the teacher. A teacher should NEVER NEVER EVER date a student. Even if there is no impropriety going on it is way too easy to think there is. Grading is called into question, classroom behavior is called into question, etc. Also, high school students are almost always less mature emotionally than teachers and rely on teachers for guidance and support. By definition teachers have more power and authority than students. It is difficult for any relationship to survive when there is that much inequality, let alone a relationship where one of the participants is only 17 years old. I think these relationships have so much potential for harme and negative feelings that there is no excuse for not waiting to date until the student-teacher relationship no longer exists. just my $0.02, dylan ps I don't think there is anything wrong with the 23-17 age difference, just the teacher-student relationship. How silly is it to enforce statutory rape laws? Not very silly at all, imo. I'm kind of surprised that, with your posting history, you would have that stance. Learn something everyday, I suppose. Dylan -- Just clarifying. If I'm reading Jeff post right, it was a 16-24 relationship. That's not legal, and the teacher should have known better. If it was truly love, he could have waited 1+ years before acting on it. (BTW -- has anyone watched Boston Public? They fired a teacher last week for sleeping with a student -- caught by the dad!) The statutory rape law is there for a reason, and it has a 3 year loophole built into it. It's not the difference in age that's important, it's the maturity. Under 18 is considered a child. I don't think there is anyone here who would disagree that there is a huge amount of maturing that goes on between 16-18. There's also a lot of emotional growth that happens from 18-24. (Well, most people, anyway. ) On Rimabaud's original post -- It is amazing how mature looking girls are appearing now. When Brittney Spears and LeAnn Rimes came onto the scene, I wouldn't have guessed they were 16. Part of that is a carefully produced image, but still...
