This seems like the 10th "I dunno about you guys thread" in the last week, but still...

I DUNNO ABOUT YOU GUYS, but don't the Rockets seem to be getting an undue amount of dissing from the major websites and their team previews of late? The ESPN guys mostly have us as third in our division, and every two-bit writer out there (which encompasses 95% of them as a matter of fact) is using the injury explanation as crutch that saves them from having to write anything substantive about this Rockets team going into the season.

I turn on the TV and Stephen A. is ranting about how Phoenix is not a contender bc they are not in the top four of LA, New Orleans, Utah, and San Antonio, as if Houston was already an afterthought.

Wasn't it just a few weeks ago when it seemed like even Hollinger was underrating us, having us as third in the conference behind Utah and LA? Now Hollinger is the generous one, and those blind sheep prognosticators are jumping off the Rockets ship as if it were the Titanic, or a Wall Street hedge fund.

It changes my opinion none about our chances to win it all, but still I've lost all respect for some writers I probably never should have had any for to begin with. Jason Whitlock's the only one left for me. Maybe Michael Smith.

you're just ridiculous if you think "hollinger was underrating us at 3rd in the conf behind LA and Utah". That's underrating us? And you think writers are dumb for having an opinion that's anything besides top 2 or 3?

If you can't understand that our 2 stars have been injured often and 1 is already hurt...then I don't know what to say really

And to be fair...with the level of talent we've had the past 2 years....you gotta admit we're underachievers to a certain degree.

Utah is way overrated...I think the Hornets and Spurs are better than them. Anyways we're ranked lower because we're injury prone...Deron, Kobe, Gasol, Paul, Duncan, Parker none of them are injury prone thus the ratings from the media.

First, I agree with one of the post. Who care what the media think.

Second, we've been hit by the injure bugs since 2 or 3 yrs ago. We haven't even gotten out of the first round since forever. Why would media give us any respect when we haven't ear it. The only thing we've ear so far is getting good players to add to the puzzle and look GREAT ON PAPER. Looking good on paper ain't going to get you any respect until you put it together and win something.

The Media, especially ESPN, shows little knowledge of what is going on in Houston. This is not unheard of, infact it's the norm every off season.
It is also an indication of how poor our media really is but not to frown, as I consider it to our advantage! When we get going the media will be baffeled and realise that their limitations have caused them to be thoroughly OFF! :p

YAO, TRACY. BAT. SCOLA, RON, AB, RAF, LAN, VON, CHUCK,BRENT and JOEY
will show them just how good we are!! Y

We haven't gotten out of the first round in what 12 years? And we've had home court the last two years, not to mention the Dallas series.
For anyone to sit here and say we're finals bound for sure is urealistic. On paper we look great but injuries and Ron's personality come to play.
And think about it, The Cowgirls where everybody's superbowl sure thing and now they are about to implode.
I would rather us be tought of a 3-6 seed and exceed expectations than be picked to win the west fall short again.

    AGREE!

I rather we fly under the radar all season long and surprise people at the end.

Well, it can be seen from other perspective - media favorites get more help from refs in the postseason (more pressure).

We have to prove it. We've shown nothing yet. The media have ALWAYS leaned hard on the previous season to make their predictions of the upcoming one.

I've been whining about lack of respect for the past 2 or 3 years, and what have we really accomplished to prove them wrong? Nothing.

We deserve all their doubt and skepticism. They don't deny we look great on paper. It's about health and Artest not imploding. There's no way to argue against that.

4th-5th is a safe bet with this team. Each year, the writers always say "Can be a contender if they stay healthy." Guess what, the rockets never do.

If I were a national media writer, I would go with the safe bet instead of going with their ceiling. Everybody knows what this team could be capable of. However, with Yao and Tmac, they've learned (as should we) that there is no need to say 'if' when it comes to health issues. It is only 'when.' I think this team has the talent to win 62 games. I bet a lot of people think that. They're just looking at it from both sides and taking the under. I don't see how that is even questionable. And also, Houston is not a big media center like New York or LA. We should all know that--it took the rockets winning 18 in a row before any body even payed attention.
