Do those big Hershey's Kiss things on the top of the building serve a purpose, or are they just decorative?

Yeah, this is St. Basil's cathedral, but the Kremlin is right next to it.

    cool, thanks everyone...

i asked a few coworkers and i got one piece of info that i will relay. i'm not sure of its accuracy, maybe someone here can help. but according to a co-worker, when st. basils was built the leader of russian at the time (not sure who it was) asked the architect if he could reproduce another building as great as that one, and the architect, thinking he was going to get more work, said, undoubtably YES, he could recreate it. so the leader of russia had the architects eyes gouged out so that he wouldn't create another one!!! how's that for appreciation!?

Ivan the Terrible. The church was built in celebration of a millitary victory.

They're called 'Onion Domes' and I believe they are only decorative and were introduced as a result of the Mongol invasion of Russia.

Since it snows a lot in Russia, the domed roofs let the snow slide down, causing the roofs not to collapse...i think

That is indeed St. Basil's Cathedral in Red Square. I toured Europe a couple of summers ago, and Moscow is a damn fine city, with tons of cool landmarks from the old Eastern Bloc days. St. Petersburg is even more picturesque.

I wasn't aware that the architect had his eyes gouged out, but it's similar to how the architect of the Taj Mahal had his hands cut off.

Oops, I stand corrected. I always thought that whole area was just called the Kremlin. Thanks for the info
