I was wondering if the match-up was hyped in China, and what is being said about the outcome of the game. I think everyone here realizes that this season is the start of the fall of the Laker dynasty. We're younger, but Houson, Dallas, Sacramento and Phoenix all have a shot (IMHO) to become the next...but only 1 of those has a Yao in the middle.
I wonder how many people world wide watched the game? The ratings in China must have been huge, and it was shown nationally in Canada and Australia, and where else? Could this have been the biggest audience to ever watch a NBA game? !
I think they show the game twice. Once live and once on tape delay. Im sure many found out about the win and watched the replay. The more fans we pick up, the better it is for the team and even the city's image.
This game was televised by ESPN to the whole world. 11 TV stations in China showed this game. Most Chinese thought Ming was doing fine in this game. They are a little disappointed about his poor shooting touch.
When those numbers come in, and the percentage of the globe that was watching, it’s going to blow our minds I bet. I mentioned in another thread that they showed Chance doing the Yao Ming song during the post game show of the national Canadian telecast. The intro was something like “they really love Yao in Houston.” That was cool, and showed that Houston was very supportive of Yao and the Rockets and is just having a lot of fun with it all. And, I should add, cc.net and cc.neters have played a big part in that. The atmosphere that Clutch and crew have created here has spawned and facilitated much of that … and now it’s reaching the four corners of the globe. Wow!
Windandsea, he was a bit injured, and he was playing Shaq for the first time. I thought he did incredibly well. Remember earlier in the year Yao had some trouble the first time he played the top centres? He always came back and did very well, or even dominated, the second time he played them. He’s smart. He learns quickly. It’ll be very interesting to see what Yao has for Shaq next time.
Do they measure ratings in China so they can determine approximately how many households/people watched the game?
If so, they couldn't have picked a better game! I was concerned about all of the hype; now it feel that it fell short of reality.
I don't care about shooting touch...just that the Rockets won a game against the defending champs, while the champs were on a 5 game roll. DD
Shooting touch will come and go, esp. year 1, and esp against Shaq. I don't think many are worried. The way the game started was no less than stunning. Did you see any headlines? I hope that game alleviates some of the enormous pressure he must feel to perform well for his country. It seems like every game for him is both NBA and the Olympics.
