I know it seems like an odd question, but what exactly is the purpose? I've always worn like a thin tee-shirt under my regular shirts and just bought some wifebeaters but if felt uncomfortable.

Sorry if the term wifebeater offends you! Suck it up. :D

They take the sweat off the shirt you're wearing over the WB's, if you're worrying too much and sweat easily.

Like you, I also wear thin tees or those sign-up-for-a-credit-card-and-you-get-this-tee shirts from olde times in my early years of college under the regular shirt or polo... i got a lotta those so now you know how bad my credit is...

... anyway, the sweat thing is what a friend told me, but if you don't feel comfortable, it's not meant for you...

I don't like that Mickey Rourke look, though... I think that's where they get their names...

You don't want to end up looking like a gangster or these idiots on the street, though... [sorry if the term idiots or gangster offends you... suck it up. :D]

While I think the term is pretty stupid, I think they look damn hot on women. ;)

I wear them cuz they're comfortable. I've gotten my share of crap for wearing them, but hey, it's what i feel comfortable in.

they do look hot on women, but what doesn't?

One of the biggest regrets of my short life is the fact that I cannot stand to play basketball with a top with the sleeves. I hate wife-beaters, but I need to have the sleeves cut off my t-shirt.

    Was that out loud?

I didn't start wearing them until about 6 months ago (lost a lost of weight so it never made sense before)

I Dunno, there is something about them that makes me seem cool. Comes in handy when you want to ball it up and have nothing but a sweater on or some ****. Plus the chicks down here expect all the white boys to be gangster as well

I dont understand thier use either to tell you the truth. I mean chances are people sweat the MOST under arm pits. And since the tank top doesnt have sleaves there is NO protection from sweat getting on your dress shirt. So I really dont see the reason for the tank top over a t-shirt. Know what I mean?
