'Conventional wisdom' on the BBS is that Sura (and/or MJ) will be moved this off-season.

This got me to thinking about '1's who are available this summer. Either free or restricted, or possibly opting out. The number seems endless. Payton and both Damons and NVE and Speedy and Dichau and Jaric and AD and Knight and Green and McInnes and Duhon and Jay Williams.

Plus, Sammy and Bobby Jax and Snow and Ollie and J-Will and Atkins and Barbarino from Phx and DFish and Austin all available on a 'take-him-please' basis. Maybe even BBarry?

(The list is certainly incomplete, and possibly inaccurate, as I am doing this off the top of my addle pated tete.)

So, what value do our guys have? What value do any of these others have? Strictly SnT material? A true buyers market at the 1.

I would think Boston, Portland, Sac, Toronto, Lakes, and Utah would have (some level of) interest in Sura (primarily, of our pair). But, for whom, for what?

Based on how poorly Barbosa ran the offense when Nash was out last season, I'd say there's probably a good chance of Phoenix looking for a more steady backup point guard. Barbosa is a very erratic player, which is not good in a system like the one Phoenix runs where the point guard is the most important position on the floor.

With Nash they're a heckuva squad. With Barbarino they are clunk-clunk.

    Who are Austin and Green?

I would like to see Sura and/or James moved only if it is an upgrade deal, not just to open up the pg slot. AD, Payton, NVE, Duhon, Jay Williams, Cassell, and Jason Williams are the only guys that somewhat interest me. And other than perhaps AD(in my mind anyway) they all have question marks or significant downsides.

Ooops, Alston (of course) and Willie Green (combo guard who was out of favor with O'B, now gone, again, of course).

I think you forgot the best PG prospect in the FA market this year.

Considering the abundance of available point guards, our guards alone probably do not have much trade value. Maybe a mid-late 1st round draft pick from a team like Phoenix. Teams aren't going to trade something of value for them when there are several free agent point guards available. But they would make good throw-ins to sweeten a deal (trade enhancers, if you will). The main thing they have going for them is that their contracts are cheap and short. Any team that wants to shed salary would make good trading partners.

    Examples:
Expiring contracts+Sura/James for Swift+JWill: Memphis unloads a bad contract and gets a cheap replacement point guard back.

Expiring contracts+Sura/James for Mobley+Williamson: Sacto gets rid of Williamson's contract and gets a decent guard back to replace Mobley.

i wouldnt mind getting willie green.. he can score well and im sure under jvg he can learn how to play some stellear d. anyone know how we could get this guy? i think he may be a bit of a untapped young addition to this team that can score profiently without being a defensive liability.

Don't forget to add Stoudamire to the mix.

He's there, one of the two Damon '1's. So, too, is Willie Green.
