What's the difference between an 0-5 start and a 6-6 start?

I'm seriously sooo confused. What is the difference between the two? Why is a 6-6 start so horrid, but an 0-5 start aint so bad? Wouldn't it be the reverse. I feel like Rocket fans and haters alike have hit the panic button and I am confused why this is so?

When Dallas dropped a couple of their opening games last season, no one predicted Dallas was going to the Lottery or even called for the midget's resignation?

When Phoenix had a piss poor start no one said how Mike D should be fired, not a single paper in Arizona said one negative thing about that team?

Now, a new Rockets team goes 6-6 and suddenly fans are alarmed. Sportscasters and writers declare that the Rockets aren't even top ten in power rankings, and suddenly a Kobe only Lakers looks better than we. What is going on here? Am I taking crazy pills or something?

Worst of all, now we have Rocket zealots who not only question the way of the Adelman, call for his firing. Mind you, these idiots are some of the same people who wanted JVG gone, and even some of them go far enough back to remember how they wanted to oust the great and infallible Rudy T. Worst of all we now have some die hard fans who have suddenly lost the faith.

Look, a loss is a loss, 5 losses are five losses. Whether they come at the very beginning of the season or somewhere in between the season. Here are some mitigating circumstances that have been drastically overlooked:

    it's Tmac's first game back:
it's heir apparent that the injury is still bothering him, he isn't 100% but he is still a good force to be reckoned with

RA is trying new things: for the Yao haters out there, one thing's for certain, if Yao can keep up both his inside and outside presence he will be really deadly. RA knows this, the long forgotten high screen and roll of the Gundy era is back and it looks so pretty. So maybe Rick isn't trying "new" things, but he is mixing it up

    Bonzi:
with his new lease on life Bonzi has finally decided to stop gorging himself on food and play basketball again. This is great. In Tmac's injury Bonzi looked pretty stellar, not only that, it's nice to have someone who really wants to be out there

Steve Francis is due for a breakout game it may sound crazy but SF3 will have a breakout game this season, I guarantee it. We don't know when or how, we all know it will happen. Those who don't are haters.

Teams like Phoenix and Dallas have proven time and time again that in crunch time they just can't perform. The only team that's really impervious to criticism is San Antonio. In spite of all this, both teams are still considered contenders. Does anyone remember the fact that both Dallas and Houston exited the first round of the playoffs last season? Does anyone realize how overrated Phoenix is? I mean the Suns play against a team better than .500 and suddenly the chances of them winning becomes a crap shoot! And yet people don't sell their stock in these teams when they skid? What is the difference between us and them? We had rings in '94 and '95 and they don't? Personally, I think it's the fact we had 6 wins. If those 6 wins are so god damned important you can have them back, because at the end of the day, we're only 12 games into the season, there's a lot more basketball left to be played. Lock this thread if need be, but hold it as a testimonial that I still have faith.

Good post. This team is going to turn itself around and we will win our 50 games. My thing isn't the rotation or the coach, because trust me that will all work itself out, and I'll be damned if there isn't a man in the rockets organization who doesn't realize you have to at least give everyone and everyone possible rotation a shot in a few games, no, but what bothers me is this teams in ability to get over the hill aka the "anti clutch."

They simply don't have that killer instinct. They simply don't have that "**** you, we're winning this game instinct." Soon enough we're gonna gain that old red sox mentality in the 4th and just o sh1iiit here we go again, and people will be bricking shots and yao will be shooting fadeaway and tracy will not be driving or getting to the line.

Finally, do I despise Harris for what he did to Yao/Tmac? YES. Does it make me livid when I see Dallas dunk on us to end the game unnecessarilly on our home court. YES.

But you know what pisses me off more then all of that, not hearing anyone on the team say anything, moreover, not seeing anyone on the team do anything about it when we play Dallas next.

It better be off with there heads.

I expected the Rockets to win every games because they have the talents to win every games.

However, it's not the wins and losses that bothering me. It is how the Rockets lost those games. They turned the ball over in key situations, and they are stupid, too.

Yao didn't improve at all. In fact, he's going back to his old self. He has become less aggressive, comparing to last year when he was determined to carry the team on his back. Remember the grizzlies game and all those 30+ points games?

You have to earn that killer end of the game instinct the hard way. LeBron gained momentum and fully obtained against Detroit.

Our team/Tmac has yet to gain momentum. If there is a god, this will happen this season. sigh.

here we go again with another "oh don't panic, our record is great, we will be just fine" thread.. we've been settling for mediocrity for as a long as I remember now, it's about time that we start expecting actual achievements from this "talented" team built around 2 of the best players in the NBA right now..

you gotta understand that Dallas and Phoenix were in Finals and in the 2nd round, respectively, the year before they had their sucky starts that you referred to.. what have we done? oh yeah, got owned in the 1st round by a mediocre Utah team on our home court... our superstar was crying like a baby at the podium saying "I tried man, I tried..." .. you realize how painful to watch that was for me? I was crying on the inside watching Tmac shed those tears like a middle school player who lost his first game ever..

if you don't believe that "it's time", which is the slogan for this season, you're a delusional over-optimistic non-realistic superficial fan... you should just sit there and admire our 6-6 record and brag about how we were "right there" the whole game and we just "got robbed by the refs"...

San Antonio fans never had the "oh, we were right there, we just didn't get lucky" approach.. they always believed that when they lose, they are outplayed by the opponent and need to get better.. what has San Antonio done? 2 championships in the past 3 years with an aging "big fundamental" and two 2nd round picks..

yeah but with all do respect tinman, its not november in my book, its november of Tmac AND Yao's FOURTH season together, and they still haven't gained that momentum, which is taken for keeps in the playoffs.

So please, don't give me the it's november line.

But it is just one game in november. If this happened against the hawks I probably wouldn't be as angry, but when we play the spurs/mavs/suns I take them on like they're games in april/may.

oh yeah, it's gonna happen!! book it LOLZ LOLZ, those r****ded damn haters think it won't but it well.. I am 100% sure Les will give Rick Adelman a game off and brings in DaDaKota to coach the Rockets, that's when DaDa takes charge and puts Steve in for 48 minutes and runs nothing but isolations for Steve Francis.. I am sure he will have a break-out game! I can't wait for this to happen! on that same day, the multi billion deficit will turn into a surplus, flying elephants will finally appear, DaDakota and SamFisher will bury the hatchet and become friends, Fatty will stop drinking, Moes and Manny will reconcile, and I will get a perfect score on the MCAT..

Honestly? with the new offense and everything? of course they have the talent to win every game, but winning on the road in the nba is tough. when you got dallas twice, phx twice, and san antonio twice, even the most optimistic fan would except 2-4 losses

because 0-5 after 7 games in the reg season (6-6) means you have problems and they are not getting fixed. I think the mavs went 0-4 btw.

i think the chronicle predicted us to be like 8-7 after november and still end up with 58 wins. I'm not happy with the game tonight for sure, but i'm far far far from worried. i mean we were 6-13 about 3 years ago before winning over 50 games.

we've had the toughest schedule in the league and haven't had a chance to even get a system down yet. it's a tough break but i expect us to dominate after christmas. i think if we had the celtics schedule we'd likely have their record.

You're more optimistic than me. My concern is that things seem to be repeating like last season. We still can't win games when McGrady isn't playing great. We're still making bad plays down stretch, and we're still unable to beat the elite teams. What if T-Mac goes down for a month with some other injury? Do we end up sinking?

I know its been a tough schedule, but I think we should be a lot better than we are right now.

Well 0-1 in this 6 game stretch till the end of November. I predicted that it was going to be a hard one and that the Rockets would be doing well to take 3 out of 6 here. It may even be concievable to end up at 1 for 6 with maybe one win against the Heat, Clippers and Golden State.

Because we aren't the Mavs. We don't have the talent. We don't have the heart. And especially, we don't have the decision making on the floor nor at the coaching level.

Um, no way. Celtics have been *crushing* teams. Rockets barely hang on when they win.
