I thought they would fit great in JVG's system

    both are good shooters

Boki espically needs more PT cuz he is young and atheltic

but Pike can shoot off a Yao kick out....

    I just don't get it....any answers??

Pike needs to make more baskets. Look at Scott Padgett, who came off the bench and got 8 points. If Pike wants to see more minutes then he'll have to do the same.

They can play, but they cannot get minutes from JVG.
You see recently when JVG had to play spoon or Paghatt, they did well, but they got minutes only because JVG's regular men were hurt.
JVG play 7 or 8-men rotation, and he plays the 8 guys he is most comfortable with, even if the 9th guy is good.

The close games that we've been having makes it difficult to find time for these 2 guys. We're in the stretch run for the playoffs, we shouldn't take any chances.

Pike is average and Boki just sucks. They're both soft players and aren't your prototypical "blue collar" players that JVG likes.

    Thus...

    Enter: Clarence Weatherspoon.

Bottom line is, they just don't D up enough for Van Grumpy. Don't matter if they score 40, to play for JVG you gotta D it up, especially a bench player. That's why I think Van Gundy is more interested in getting rid of MoT than Cato.

Im not sure about Padge/Biki's D but a few games ago when Pike was getting minutes it seemed like he was reallly hustling on D. He really suprised me how he was all over the place. If he could consistantly find his shot I think he could easily be a JVG guy.

What i dont really get is AG geting minutes over pike. His offensive game is basically garbage. Is he really that much better on D.

Yes he is. AG goes over loose balls and has a better "radar" for rebounds than either Pike or Boki. That's exactly why JVG brings AG in during key possessions late in games. Can't question VanGrumpy's judgment

They won't get anymore mins till next season. Bench players like them should play their best game before the all-star break where they get some chances to play. After the all-star break, the rotation are pretty much set, and the only thing they can do is to still practice hard incase someone gets hurt. I wish they can find a good trainer and work out the whole summer, be ready next season, it maybe the Boki year.

JVG is needing to rely on the Big bodies right now more than anything. I wouldn't be suprised if we didn't see Boki again this year. It's winning time ladies and gentlemen, we don't have time to experiment anymore.

Your right, AG is a much better on D and thats why JVG like him. What i really like about Pike is he is shooter off the bench that plays pretty solid D which isnt usually expected in that role.

At the same time i really love players that can clamp down on D. Hopefully JVG can develop a playoff squad that can have AG for defensive situations and Pike in the regular situations in the game.

some coaches play all their players. some coaches have short rotations.

hubie brown for example never plays any of his player over 35 minutes... like never.

today cat, steve, and jj all had 40+ minutes. i hope they won't wear down by playoffs time

It's not so much that Pike and Boki sucks, but rather JVG prefers other guys over them. He prefer to have Mo Taylor, Weatherspoon, and Jackson coming off the bench, forming the Rockets' "8 Men Rotation" that will be used in the playoffs.

I personally would like to see the rotation stretch out to 9 guys, with someone spelling JJ and Mobley more often. JJ especially might be a little too old to play for so long.

Who gives a crap, we're winning. Sad, SAD as it is, not every NBA player actually gets to play, even if they don't huff dong at an Amaechi-like level.

It's easy, when Pike and Boki can D up, they'll get minutes. It's as simple as that.
