What's the deal? I don't hate the guy, but I just wonder why everyone thinks he is destined for stardom. At best, he's a decent SF backup.
I think he could start within 2-3 years, and probably be pretty productive. The overabundance of guards and SFs on the team, combined with his raw-ness is what has him in such a rut. I wouldn't necessarily consider myself to be a big Langhi fan, but I do like the guy. He's incredibly raw, but I love his hustle, and his leaping ability is amazing. I think most feel that way. It always sucks to lose someone with his apparent heart, especially when he hustles the way he does.
I like him because he is a 7 footer who can shoot and put the ball on the floor. He was a STUD at Vanderbilt and could be a very good NBA player. However, the NBA is all about where you are and how you fit in with your team, heck look at Moochie for evidence of that. Langhi fit in when Hakeem was here, now, I am not so sure that he fits with this guard oriented team. I would still play Langhi over Walt and let the cards fall where they may, but Rudy has one major fault and that is his loyalty to veteran players. Sometimes Rudy waits to long to try new combinations. DaDakota
DaDakota is right. Langhi *can* put the ball on the floor. That's called gravity. His problem is putting the ball on the floor twice. That's called inertial interference--or being stripped.
People say I play like Langhi (I'll take that as a compliment) and kind of look like him (thin, height, haircut) so I became a fan.
Langhi will probably end up being Tmo's backup in the long run, after both Rice and Walt are gone. There's no reason to wish the guy leaves the team, as he will surely be useful in that role in the future. However, putting Langhi ahead of Tmo on the depth chart now would be incredibly stupid, as Tmo brings the things we need to the table (toughness, rebounding, blocks and even some 3pt) as opposed to Langhi, who is a scorer. Now that both Torres and Jones have somewhat estabilshed themselves as great backcourt options for us, forget about seeing Langhi at the 2 at all. Right now I don't see him getting the PT he needs to develop his game with us. Maybe we should send him over to Europe or something for a year.
Nobody is saying Langhi is destined for stardom. He would help our bench though and give us versatility once he matures. I don't know why you have to be considered a "Langhi" fan just because you think the guy could help the team.
We need to make the playoffs so we can't play Langhi while he hopefully develops more of a game. Rudy could do Langhi a favor by letting him go. Langhi needs to go to Europe or the CBA, play big minutes and start working on his game. He can learn to pass and dribble within his limitations. Langhi has the shooting, running and jumping ability to seem like a prospect. As others have said it might just be as simple as accepting his present limitations as a Bullard type jump shooter. Paradoxically once he does that he might be able to slowly develop other skills like Bullard eventually did. It would be really interesting to hear Rudy or his teammates views on Langhi. By the way I see nothing wrong with additionally rooting for Langhi because he is white. I remember rooting in my youth for the few black players in some sports. I'm white, but I believe that there are many good hearted African Americans who also root for Langhi for the same reasons I used to root for them in professional sports. It is good for the game and America.
Dan is young and this team has the talent to allow it to wait on Langhi. We have to wait for Taylor, don't we? We have time and he has time. If Morris and Torres had not shown up we would not be discussing this. So it is more misfortune rather than inadequate or insuffient talent. In fact, we simple have too much talent for the number of spots that we have. (Too bad all those media outlet have not seen that yet!) This reminds me on Ehlo, which Bill Fitch let go and he played quite a few productive years after that. There is also Tracy Murray. I see Dan being on IR which is not the best situation but it would allow him to continue to develop and learn the game. I would be very surprised if he is cut.
LANGHI'S MY BOY! Check out his fro... he's so cool... you just know he's destined for stardom (and I got a DL signed rookie card!) rH
