I say bust if Yao gets
    7ppg
    4rpg
    .5bpg
    .43 FG
    1apg

    real deal
    14ppg
    7rpg
    2bpg
    .60 FG
    3 apg

considering he's had no time to rest after the world and asian games, lack of trainging camp and time to adjust to America.

    hmmmm...am I being too harsh?

I'll be happy with 10 pts, 7 rebs, 2 assists, 2 blocks, .550 fg % for the first season. Anything above that would be a plus.

Points wont matter. The exciting part about Yao's game is his shooting
    skill.

If he gets only 6 points, but shots 3 for 3, then what else do you want?

He wont get as many shots as Shaq, nor will we GIVE all the
shots to Francis. But, the shots he does get he will knock down (most of them).

    5 for 6

    7 for 10

    4 for 6

    8 for 12

    3 for 3

I will be content if he gets(in his first season)
15pts/gm 9rbs/gm 3 bl/gm. In the third season he should be judged as great or just OK.

I think it all depends on how much playing time he gets. If he has alot of trouble adjusting then eventually his playing time will drop, and then people will coming out saying i told you he was a bust.

The cutoff line won't be activated for another 2-3 years. I couldn't care less what he does this year or how he's used. Let's see how much he improves by the 2005-2006 season.

This is so stupid, but I'll give it a try.....

    11 - 8 - 4 - 4

There, now get back to something productive.

I think all these numbers are resonable. The fun this year concerning Yao will be those "break out" games where he's not in foul trouble hits his first few shots and Steve says "Well ***t how many can he make?" and feeds him several times down the court and all the sudden Steve and Cat are finding themselves open. The first time I see a defense react to Yao and play Steve and Cat the way defenses used to play Smith and Maxwell I'm going to say Yao's great enough. And the rare 25 pt. 12 rb. 3 blk. 4 asst. nights are going to jump out to everyone because Shaqs the only full-time center in the league who can put up those kind of numbers. When Hakeem was a rookie there would be 4 or 5 centers doing it on any given night.

Don't get your expectations up too high. Give him time to adapt to the league. Dirk Nowitzki didn't have great stats his first season and look at him now...

    Dirk was 19, though, right?

Bust is a strong word. imo, we already know that he is not a bust.

IF he is a bust, we will know within a month. That's all it took for Griffin and Francis. I've seen enough of Yao to have expectations much greater than Bradley. Much greater.

I expect him to be ROY. I expect him to be top 3 center within one year. I think he can put up 20/10 first season (unless he hits the wall--but certainly he should have at least one month of 20/10). He doesn't have to be ROY, for me to still like him, but if he comes out of the gate awkward, frightened, bad hands, foul prone, and can't get his shot off regularly like Bradley...I will consider him a bust at that point. I'm not waiting 3 yrs for Olowakandi to declare him a bust...why wait for Ming. Remember, we are measuring him against against other #1 picks and versus trading him for Odom...

I agree HP. That high a pick with that capability should perform right away. Gasol did. Francis did. Battier did. Griffin did. Why shouldn't Ming Yao? At least 15 pts. 8 rebounds and a couple blocks. And I want to see him passing for 4-5 assists.

Ever heard of Joe Smith? Kwame Browm?

...point is: give him time. Whether he is or isn't a bust the team should still win 50 games or Rudy will be busted out of a job.............holla.back...
