Cause whatever it is, I think I did it to my ankle tonight. Right now I'm on ice but I might end up in the hospital before the night is over.

What kind of things are there in your ankle to break/tear?

I can't put any weight on it, and it's been almost two hours. I think this is beyond an ankle sprain.

Anyway, just looking for some help.

    Thanks guys.
    :)

could still be a sprain, a really bad one. have had a few of those..wouldnt be able to put pressure on em for days. best thing to do is prop your leg ice on/ice off.

edit: oh, and prob best you just go to a doc, maybe get some x-rays to be sure nothing is broke

Rupturing your Achilles Tendon I think is the worst thing you can do to your ankle. It definitely takes a lot of your athleticism away and slows you down.

P.S. How did you hurt your ankle anyway?

Get it checked out ASAP man.

I thought I just sprained my knee last year, then I went and got it checked and they thought I tore my ACL. Then when they performed surgery, they find out that I fractured the left side of my knee and lost a ton of cartilage.

If I hadn't gotten an appointment quickly, I'd probably not be walking right now. Obviously, I doubt your injury is that bad but it goes to show what happens sometimes.

Thats what a bad ankle feels like. Its the tearing of the ligaments around the ankle.

You could technically break your ankles but that normally involves falling from a great height like a building or a car accident.

I broke my ankle last year. It actually hurts a little less and looks a little less worse than a bad sprain. I basically broke off the bottom half of the ball at the bottom of my fibula. Luckily, it was a clean brake and the gap wasn't enough to require surgery. It took me a good 6 months to completely heal and be able to play soccer again w/o pain...which included about 2 months of rehab.

Get it checked out tomorrow. Don't wait. For tonight, ice and tylenol (or something stronger if you've got it).

Did you hear anything pop or did you just roll it?

Mine happened while making a cut playing soccer. The field was a little wet and my ankle started to roll at the same time that a dude clipped my shin making me roll much harder.

    Forget the tylenol. Get Ibuprofen.

Mine was playing soccer. The guy I was defending made a bad move and accidentally stepped on the top of the ball and fell strait forward onto my leg.

He was a big guy, and I was wearing cleats so my foot was immobile for the whole thing.

He basically hyper-extended my knee, no question. I felt that happen, and actually that's the lesser of the two injuries. Everyone was really worried about my knee when it happened, but I felt it in my ankle.

I basically feel a sharp burning sensation creeping up about 6 inches on the inner ankle/calf, and also a sharp pain in the lower left size of my ankle if I try to move it.

That's the best way I can describe it.

I'm not sure if I'll get x-rays tonight or wait till the morning.

You should go to the hospital immediately. I don't understand what you're waiting for.

I played competitive basketball this summer in a league for the first time since I tore my achilles.

I was stunned by how much slower I was and how little vertical I had (not that it was much to begin with).

Tore both ACLs before that and the dropoff in athleticism was nowhere near what it was after the achilles tear.

man, i have probably sprained my ankle in every possible way. getting the right bball shoes is vital for ankle sprain prevention. anyways..

once i sprained my ankle so severely that a ligament in my ankle tore off completely and took a chip of bone with it. needless to say, i could not put any weight on it and ended up wearing a cast for ~1.5 months

I hurt my ankle really bad almost 2 months ago and I couldn't put pressure on it for 3 days. There was a ball the size of my fist around the ankle, it was purple and red and nasty looking.

Just ice it, keep it elevated and pray it is not broken! I got x-rays and mine was not broken thank God! 2 weeks later I started doing the strengthening exercises the doc gave me and then started slowly jogging on it and now it's pretty much back to normal except it's still sore.

Another sweet remedy: Epsom Salt!!! Put some in hot water and soake your ankle in there...man it feels sooooooo good afterwards.

    Best of luck.

A ruptured Achilles just sounds awful. I mean, does it really rupture? What happens?

The achilles really has nothing to do with your ankle...I dont think you can mistake the two injuries.

If you tear your achilles, then your foot basically has no way of acivating your calf muscles.
