Ok I have seen Yao dunking over the Big Ben and Okur... with little Baby Shaq move. He's getting more and more aggresive, especially at the offensive end. Now, what's the next most important part of his game to improve?
I think he should stay as the same weight or about 300lbs. He does not need to be over weight like shaq. He just need only the upper body strength and that is not translated to increasing weight.
Actually, the capacity Yao has for learning the game is really astounding to me. His understanding of the game and awareness of what he has to do to improve himself is just ridiculous.
"Self-confidence is something that can be contagious," Yao said through an interpreter. "If one person loses it, maybe it's OK. But if two people do, it starts affecting everybody. I think this is something our whole team has to work on." Yao made 6-of-10 shots in his second matchup with Wallace, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year. "I used the last game against him as a reference," Yao said. "He's a great shot blocker but that also means he fouls sometimes." "The guy is an elite player at the center position defensively," Houston coach Rudy Tomjanovich said of Wallace. "I thought Yao hung in there real good with him. I was very proud of some of the things he did." That's the only reason I still watch ROXs' games!
I think he's amazingly versatile. For a guy who basically admitted he didnt have to do much to dominate the CBA to playing strong in the low post against Ben Wallace is unbelievable. Now if he could only learn to keep the ball up high. One thing he is learning is that if you dunk with one hand, you can use the other arm to shield the defender which will prevent someone from slapping it away or getting it blocked.
Add four inches to his vertical and watch his blocks per game increase by 100%. Very doable with the right training.
we don't need a 320 lb Yao. That'll definitely slow him down and make him more volnerable to injuries.
Quickness and conditioning, BIG FELLA! As Yao gets more aggressive and improves his conditioning, he'll become a little more explosive (i.e. gain more hops).
Hands. Not passing & receiving passes as much as keeping his hands on rebounds, and not letting defenders swat the ball out of his hands when he's on offense.
