Now, he's been included in almost every trade discussion (ranging from getting Shaq to getting Crap) we talked about in the last three years. Seems like everyone wants to trade him away. Some thinks getting him out of here is a plus by itself. So, what is his trade value then? I will use draft picks as his trade currency. Vote and explain!
He a 6th man who makes 8 million for each of the next 3 years. I would say he has very little trade value
Bobcats didn't pick him for nothing and no team under cap showed any interest for him. Snow deal was dead because Rox tried to throwing Mo in the mix. ... All these things give me an impression that MoT's contract made his trade value negative.
$9 per season for 11.5 PPG and 5.1 RPG, and a drug history to boot. Still can't believe that so many think hes the key to so many possible deals.
Taylor has two significant problems when it comes to trade value: 1. He is a scorer that plays the big forward position. Normally, you don't want your spark plug to be a big man and, conversely, you want your big man to be a solid rebounder and defender. Mo is neither of those. 2. His contract is way too big for most teams to consdier taking on considering his skill set. If he had a smaller contract, I'd say he would be worth the same as most decent role players. But, with that contract, he's just tough to move.
The guy's another underachieving joke. Hopefully the last mistake of its kind that we make. Instant offense, yes, but worthless in every other area, and pricey to boot.
I agree he has more value to us than what we might have to take back in return. ie. Negative value. And personally, I think he will have a better year than last, but it will be tough moving Mo when you have Howard doing the same thing for much less. I think trade partners needing a PF will be holding out for Howard+.
The only way Mo Taylor gets traded is if we take on a big contract ourselves. Eric Snow certainly made sense for the Rockets as he fits a need. But i don't see any other "Taylor for overpaid-PG" trade that make sense for both teams.
One of the things that we fail to recognize is when a guy who has disappointed has turned the corner. An example is Cato. Bad contract --- probably. But, look at the rebounds and hustle he gives on defense. The Majic think the guy adds value to their deal (even if the dollars don't match up). I think we have too many virtual GMs on this board. When I consider whether Mo T has trade value, I have to consider that the guy has been put in the 6th man role and played it fairly effectively on a team that made the playoffs last year. He wasn't here to rebound and he's not a great rebounder. But, he manages to score most of the time when you need it. He can give you those 6th man minutes when nobody (and I mean nobody) on your side that is out on the court has any clue as to how to get his shot. If you have the money (or another overpriced contract to trade) he has a trade value. When you are team who has struggled to score even a point when your main player or two is out, he has value. I think he would have been very valuable to the Lakers last year.
You could argue that Snow's talent/contract ratio is worse than Mo's and Philly, allegedly, wouldn't swap Mo for Snow.
Believe it or not, I think his value right now is as high as it's ever going to be. I see him having a greatly diminished role next season, with Howard and Mcgrady joining the team. His minutes and his shot attempts are going to dwindle. Hopefully he doesn't pull a Drew Gooden and sulk and complain on the bench all season or else, well, we all saw what little value Orlando was able to get for Gooden.
what bothers me with Taylor the most is that we are OVERPAYING HIM FOR SOMETHING WE DONT NEED! i would not mind as much for bad contracts like Eric Snow or even a Brian Grant. But Mo T does nothing for us
Mo gives a post scoring off the bench which I believe is the whole reason Cato started at the 4. Now that we can actually have post scoring in the starting line-up, which will help the collapse on Yao, and a scoring punch off the bench. Plus Mo can backup Yao when needed in a pinch. Overpaid, yeah, but he has and I believe will serve us with value.
I think caphorns is right... I think there are teams out there that would like having a player like him on the team. Don't know why, but the Bucks come in mind as one of those teams. The guy can score. He has a nice shot and a very nice go to move in his hook shot that he has been real effective with. I think he would help a team like the Bucks who could use some inside presence on offense to free up Redd, etc. I do remember teams doubling Mo when he was in the game last season. Wonder if a Mo/Joe Smith trade would be possible?
I starting to think it's way way negative. Something like Mo for Shandon Anderson and Moochie. OR Mo + Spoon for Penny. Both Real Gm approved!
