The response to the "Bose" thread made me wonder what components everyone has for their home theater system. Being an HT enthusiast, I'm naturally curious to see how others like what they have.

    I'll go first.

TV: Toshiba 42H81 RPTV (16:9 screen)
PRE-AMP: B&K AVP3090 (soon to be replaced by an Outlaw 950)
    AMP: Carver AV-405 (5-channel)
DVD PLAYER: Proscan 8680Z (an old DIVX player- I'm so ashamed...)
CD PLAYER: Pioneer Elite PD-59 (25 disc changer)
    LINE CONDITIONER: Panamax 1000+
RECORDER: ReplayTV 100 hour (took out old drive, put in 100 GB)
    REMOTE: Phillips Pronto TSU-1000
    SPEAKERS:
    FRONTS: Paradigm Monitor 9s
    CENTER: Paradigm CC-350
    SURROUNDS: Paradigm Mini-Monitors
    SUBWOOFER: Energy eXL-S8
CABLES/WIRES: Monster bi-wire, Vampire wire, Audioquest interconnects, Audioquest coaxial digital, Monster optical digital

To be blunt, I love my system. It's taken me 4 years to put it all together, and it sounds great. The Paradigm speakers are incredible, and the Toshiba TV looks amazing with DVDs (but not so great with cable, although the stretch mode is one of the best I've seen in a 16:9 TV). My friends always want to come over and watch a movie (much to my fiancee's chagrin). The pre-amp is outdated, however, and the DVD player is a mere first generation one. I'll be addressing those two weaknesses soon, though. For the meantime, both units perform adequately for me. Also, I must say that the Pronto remote control is awesome. It does everything for me, and I've even put in some Simpsons pics on the remote.

Unfortunately, because I want the best (and most bang for my buck), I've developed a full-blown breakout of "Upgrade-itis." Therefore, I'll be replacing some components relatively soon. I'm definitely getting the new Outlaw 950 pre-amp (if and when it comes out). That much I know. I'm also flirting with the idea of getting a separate amp for just the front speakers, because I enjoy 2-channel audio when playing CDs. (The Odyssey Stratos and Anthem series of amps are intriguing to me.) The other definite upgrade will be the DVD player. I've heard good things about the Panasonic RP91, and I might shell out the dough for that unit. We'll see. Other than that, maybe down the road I'll spring for an SVS sub (but not until I move completely out of NYC). Where will I get the cash for all these upgrades? Ummmm. You guys could lend me money, right? Right??

Well.....even though I was someone who derided Bose speakers in the previous thread, I have to admit that's what I have in my HT. Unfortunately, I've been needing to upgrade for years, and it just seems that I keep getting pushed back.

I have an OLD (but still pretty darn good) Sony 32" Triniton. When I say old, I'm talking close to 15 years old. The power supply went out a year or two ago, and I was told to definitely spend the money to replace it as I'd have to get an FD or Wega to get a better monitor (if I want Sony---which I'm no longer married too; I myself will go with Toshiba next time around).

I have a first generation Sony DVD player and a Yamaha R-V1103 Receiver. I still really like the receiver. My sub is Yamaha YST-SW-300.....it's excellent for the money. My front main speakers are an old set of Bose 401's, and my surrounds are a pair of 301's. The yammy has dual outputs for the center channel, so I'm running a pair of 201's for the center. As much as I advise against Bose speakers, they do a pretty good job for movies....of course, they're lacking in the high's department, but the sub really kicks the lows.

When I want to listen to music, I go downstairs and listen to my Klispsch Forte II's powered by an old Kenwood Basic M2-A 220 watt per side amplifer along with my old Yamaha separates.

My computer is in the spare bedroom, and I can also lay on that bed and watch movies. I've got a Soundblaster Audigy Platinum powering my Klipsch Promedia 4.1's. At the time I got 'em, they didn't have the 5.1's, and I wanted a center channel, so I bought a klipsch SC-5 center channel and an AudioSource 100 watt monoblock amp. It sounds pretty damn good.

My wife and I are having a house built, and she's already told me that she doesn't want speaker wires or speakers on shelves in the new house. I'm going to give in and get some in-walls, but I WILL NOT go quietly into the night. They may be in-walls, but I'm gonna make sure they are bad-ass. Right now....with my love affair with Klipsch....I'm looking into the RCW-5's, but I'm ALL EARS (pun intended) as to anyone's opinion on better in-walls.

I'm also going to go with a 7.1 set-up for speakers. I really want the Outlaw 950 myself, and I'm going to spring for the 770 amp just to be obnoxious.

So...any suggestions on in-walls, I wanna hear 'em.

Please tell me that you saved all your user manuals, and therefore know all the model numbers for your massive "system".

It looks like you are planning on opening a multiplex.
Sure bro, I would love to be a start up investor for a new cinema!

until I move into my new home, my HT consists of a Sony DVD, 27" Sony TV, JVC VCR, DirecTV satellite system and a bunch of dvd's.

I want to get at least the 5 speaker set up and a receiver... maybe a bigger TV

like A-Train and Dr of Dunk I have a very advanced HT set up:

19 inch TV, Playstation one (not a PS1, a Playstation 1), and a VCR that turns off when I try to rewind.

    TV: 27" Zenith
    VCR: Stereo Panasonic
CD Player: Aiwa 3 CD with surround sound
DVD: Apex AD1500 (1 week old!!)

I both the VCR and the DVD run through the stereo, but alas, I cannot use it to the full extent - it would wake my daughters :(

    Mine is hardly a theater . . .

More like a home concert hall :)

TV: Akai 27" Flatscreen TV. It's from Sam's, and is the same as a nice Samsung that is 100 dollars more. EXACTLY the same, just diff. color.

    Receiver: Sansui 9090DB . . . if you know, you know . . .

CD Player: Kyocera DA-810 - Separate Digital and Analog stages, separate power supply, Kyocera stopped making them because they were too nice -- not profitable, even at the 1100 asking price!

DVD: Sony DVP-S550D . . . could be better, could be worse . . . it can't play music AT ALL (awful!), but DVDs look nice

Speakers: Bose 601s from 1977 (the good years), and soon to come, 2 Sansui SP-X9000s.

Console: Dreamcast - into TV via S-Video

Computer: Shuttle SV24, silent, with 40 Gig ATA/100 Seagate Barracuda IV (7200 RPM), 256 Megs PC133 SDRAM, Via C3 933 Mhz processor, Lite-On 32x CDRW, Hercules Gametheater XP out to Receiver, Monster cable S-video out to TV. Wireless Keyboard and mouse combo. Networked.

Cable: 12 AWG copper terminated in gold spades on the speaker end, and gold thin plugs into the receiver. Interconnects are currently "Vanco NFT" which are actually pretty kickass, but I'm working on scraping up the cash to get better interconnects.

Oh, and my remotes are just standard TV and DVD . . . the Sansui and Kyocera don't have remotes (the ONLY thing that sucks about them)
