Please share.... My own recent list (the last month or so) and a mini review of each Andrei Rublev - Long, Russian epic film by Andrei Tarkovsky about an icon painter's struggle with his faith and artistic gift. Good film but probably would only appeal to those with lots of time (3.5 hours), patience and an interest in Christian spirituality. Solaris - Another Tarkovsky film, which deals a Soviet astronaut's reaction to a planet that can materialize his inner desires. I really liked this (especially the way it asked whether a recreation of an object can ever be the same as the original), but it's also slow and long. Jigoku - Japanese B-movie that deals with a man going to hell. Not a particularly good film, although the visuals of hell are pretty outstanding City of God - Brilliant Brazillian film about teenage hoodlums (it's been compared to Goodfellas, which I think is accurate). It's very violent and disturbing, but the craftsmanship and artistry behind it are amazing. Highly recommended Das Boot - Classic German film about the crew of a Nazi U-boat. For a 3 hour movie, this is amazingly well-paced and keeps your interest. Recommended. I've heard there is a longer, mini-series version. I've maxxed out my Netflix queue (500 films) but I'm always looking for suggestions.
I've been watching Prison Break season one on DVD. Bad ass show. I can't believe how difficult it is to break out of prison...
I just re-watched The World's Fastest Indian. I'm a motorcycle guy, but it's possibly the best movie made last year.
Hotel Rwanda: Great movie, this movie really moved me Fawlty Towers: Funiest comedyserie ever Sleepers: Also great movie, it has been my favorite for years. Ice Age: Just a funny movie, i just recently watched Snatch: Also one of my favorites, just to funny and sarcastic.
I bought King Kong without seeing it and was let down. I think I'm about to make the same mistake with Superman Returns.
my kids are the only ones in my house who use the DVD player much. Curious George and Charlie Brown Christmas have been on quite a bit, lately.
I bought the Looney Tunes Golden collections 1-4, so my son can watch the cartoons I grew up with. Loud QUIET Loud - Really good Pixies documentary. I also watched the acoustic Newport show recently. Penn & Teller Bullsh!t Season 3 - I have the first two seasons and 3 was cheap. I have King of the Hill Seasons 5 & 6 coming in the mail from Deep Discount DVD (Which I found from a post here BTW) because they were buy one get one free.
