My 2 favorite cafes in Houston: George's on Washington just west of Shepherd. The owner George, somewhat like the Soup Nazi on Seinfeld but with a crazy greek charm. Knows everyones by name and when you leave says goodbye & thanks "your name here". His favorite motto "God bless America and God Bless the Dallas Cowboys...that sonofabeetches" Monday & Thursday turkey & dressing day. YUMMY! Texas Cafeteria Near the big Fiesta on 24th and Shepherd. All blue collar workers. Lots of trucks parked out front. A stack of Hightide/Lowtide pocket charts & turkey shootin' bullseye charts for yer takin'. A few stuffed deerheads on the wall and always ESPN sports on the tele. Great fried fish, salisbury steaks, chicken fried everything and a salad with dressing goooped on it! Cheap too! ------------------ This space left intentionally blank... [This message has been edited by mr_oily (edited July 26, 2001).]
If you're in San Antonio, check out Antojito's for lunch. GREAT Mexican food for a good price. The spiciest salsa you'll ever have too. It's on Culebra, in between Camino Santa Maria and 36th street. Here in Houston, Wendy's ------------------ I'm looking for a job, so hire me "And I just have to smile and say 'well, I hope so' while I'm really thinking inside how I'd like to just strangle them and take their job."
Spicy Chicken sandwich from Wendy's sounds good. I'm starving my ass off right about now. I could print and eat this thread. ------------------ If the Rockets lose, then we all lose.
El Tiempo... fillet fajitas, fresh quacamole and three of their margaritas. Oh wait....I'm dreaming, and I'm 45 miles away from them. I guess I'll go home and have some leftover yard bird. ------------------ stop posting my damn signature
Mr_Oily...you da man! I've been to both of those places and like them both. Today, for me, it's Fadi's Mediterranean Grill. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
JAKE'S PHILLY CHEESE STEAKS on Chimney Rock, Houston, TX The Chicken Philly rocks! They use this sauce that'll just knock your socks off! I love this place, as a matter of fact, I was there today!! rH ------------------ Updated: The Psychedelic Groove House of Rockets Basketball Love! join the club! One word. Texadelphia. ------------------ The next time I have meat and mashed potatoes, I think I'll put a very large blob of potatoes on my plate with just a little piece of meat. And if someone asks me why i didn't get more meat, ill just say, "Oh, you mean this?" and pull out a big piece of meat from inside the blob of potatoes, where ive hidden it. Good magic trick, huh?
Tokyo One, Beltline Rd, Addison, TX You like sushi? They have every kind you can imagine. ------------------ My doctor says I am bipolar. I am going to get a second opinion. I have never had intimate desires for polar bears.

Timmy Chan's on Bellaire near Chimney Rock. Looks like a total dump, but has pretty good for a good price. One meal is enough for a whole day or more! I would rather not know what goes on back there making the food . . . ------------------ I'm looking for a job, so hire me "And I just have to smile and say 'well, I hope so' while I'm really thinking inside how I'd like to just strangle them and take their job."

Hmm, good question. If they have it, and I have eaten it, it seems they are cutting it right. That is, providing the death is immediate. It's only been 3 hours since lunch! ------------------ My doctor says I am bipolar. I am going to get a second opinion. I have never had intimate desires for polar bears.

Anyone ever been to Dirty's?! there used to be one on I-10 but that closed and theres only one downtown. In started in Austin i beleive and yes, it was dirty... but it has damn good food. Get chicked fried steak there and its bliss...... mmmmmmm i want some nowwwww mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ------------------ "The early bird may get the worm, but so does the bird that finished off the tequila bottle the night before"
Yup, been there, but it seems to have gone a little down-hill in the last couple of years. For a good chicken fried steak, you should check out Hickory Hollow. It's at the intersection of Washington Ave. and Heights Blvd. right by the Fabulous Satellite Lounge. I think there are one or two others in other parts of town as well. ------------------ "Blues is a Healer" --John Lee Hooker
I dont live in Houston anymore, so every chance I get, I go to James Coney Island! Those hotdogs are the best ever. There used to be one in San Antonio, but it closed down about a year and a half ago. Man what I wouldn't do for a chili cheese coney right about now! ------------------
Oh man, I don't know how I forgot about this place . . . Little Hips in San Antonio. It's a fun place to go, but go expecting to be full afterwards. They have these hamburgers that are like 1 foot in diameter -- they're bigger than your head. And if you order fries, they bring you this like bucket of fries that's enough for 3 people. Cool decor, great place to go! Other places in San Antonio: The Malt House is a cool place too. Awesome hamburgers and great value. Papa Taco next to the Conoco on Bandera before Evers is one of my very favorite places -- it's a total dump, but the food is pretty darn good, and it's CHEAP! HEB's Chinese Kitchen has pretty good food too. It's not as good now as it was a while ago when Charlie was the manager, but it's still solid. Great spring rolls. Thai Taste kicks ass. BUT, THE BEST restaurant in all of San Antonio is a German Restaurant on San Pedro, south of loop 410. It'll be on your left as your driving south. I don't recall the name, but it was THE BEST meal I've had, maybe ever. Get the Onion Schnitzel. It's expensive, but worth every cent. ------------------ I'm looking for a job, so hire me "And I just have to smile and say 'well, I hope so' while I'm really thinking inside how I'd like to just strangle them and take their job."
I just ate at The Malt Housefor lunch the other day. I ate the Fat Boy special for $2! I even gave a tip, and still had change from a $5. You can't go wrong with that. What about Chris Madrid's? Those are some pretty tight burgers. Chester's[b/] is good too. There is another place,The Longhorn Cafe, out on 1604 and Blanco. It is a rustic looking burger joint. Good food there also. ------------------
Ya know, I still have never been to Chris Madrid's. I've been to Chester's though -- pretty good stuff. Wasn't it rated 'Best hamburgers in SA' a few times? ------------------ I'm looking for a job, so hire me "And I just have to smile and say 'well, I hope so' while I'm really thinking inside how I'd like to just strangle them and take their job."
