what is best for the rockets? is it best that we lose Cat and dont get croshere and just tank this coming year? I for one think that it is? THis is because next years draft is just awesome. We got eddie griffin who could be the next best power forward. (hes a personal fav) and then trade up all our other draft picks to get morris. THat might just be a better team in the future. the starting lineup would be:

    C-Cato
    PF-Griffin
    SF-Morris
    SG-Anderson
    PG-Francis
    -----thats just plain old scary.
So i say we should tank the season.

If the Rockets were interested in tanking, they would have done it this year!!

Tanking consipiracies need not be presented on this board, they are just ridiculous.

I agree if we were going to tank we should have done it this past year. Instead of allowing Cat to find his game... we would have maybe gotten Johnson and kept Cat but instead we showcased Mobley allowing him to raise his market value and lost a higher pick in the draft. Tanking is not in Rudy's blood. It's just not part of his character. And I respect him for that... Although I have to admit I sometimes wake up in the middle of the night dreaming about Stromile slamming all over Scottie's face!

    How can tanking possibly help????
Think about it; coach says "ok let's lose all our games", players go out there and play stupid basketball and throw wins away. Players get in the habit of making silly mistakes. Players keep these habits and get into the groove of losing games. Oh dear. You get a good draft pick, but because players are so desensitized to losing all the time they just continue to lose.

There's not many teams that tank and then are immediately succesful. They normally take a season or so to merely improve to mediocrity and then a couple more seasons to become anything halfway decent - by this time players have become so sick of losing that they go and play somewhere else because they want to play in the playoffs....

The Rockets tanked the '83 season to get in the Sampson coin flip and the '84 season to get in the Akeem coin flip. Two years later, they played the Celtics for the title.

True, Rudy and the players are probably the last people who would want to tank a season. But if the Rockets don't add any players to the team in addition to losing Cat, then that means we're still going to remain a lottery team. Also, Tim Floyd and the Bulls players weren't tanking it at all last season but it was the 2 Jerry's who really tanked. So if it is tanking that anybody is accused of come this season it just might be CD.(Besides, tanking isn't all that terrible if Stevie gets to jack it up 33 times a game.)

I do apologise grummet, it would seem that tanking does work... I'm still not sold on the idea though!

One thing regarding the rockets tanking, did we have any "key" players injured during the 83 and 84 seasons? In recent history the best tank would have to be the spurs to get duncan, but they did sit out Robinson and Elliot and numerous other players for that whole year (injured) and just encouraged their severely overmatched youngsters and ancient veterans to play HARD and try their best. Losing was not encouraged, it was just fact because their team was so bad! Just wondering if that was the case with the rockets in 83 and 84?

Dr. N-- The most "curious" player event of that time was Robert Reid's surprise retirement for religious reasons before the '83 season and his unretirement for the '84 season. I always found that move very, um, timely.

Considering the Rockets in 83-84 were an extremely young team that went from 14 wins to 29, I don't think there was any tanking going on. Their best player was Ralph Sampson, for crying out loud! [IMG]

OK, OK, Ralph was considered one of the league's brightest stars at the time, and we were accused by one coach (who was that?) of tanking, but that was like George Karl saying Hakeem sucked -- no one took him seriously.

No Tanking! But we could sign Charles to a few 10 day contracts if we are doing to good.

I don't think they should tank an entire season but if there is 15 games remaining and the rockets are totally out of the playoff picture then i say TANK.

No more number 9 picks, if they're gonna be bad be really bad and get a top 5 pick.

I for one was disappointed when Duncan decided to return to SA. Popovich can tank like no other. It would be fun to see the new and exciting ways in which a team could lose a game.

As far as the Rockets tanking, NO WAY! Once you coach a team to lose it will never be the same. Cuttino is a good 6th man, but in the long run I would be happy to see him go. I have a good feeling about Croshere coming in and Shandon would benefit from the increased touches. I like Mobley, but if he's looking to be the star then he cam move along. He is no longer a young pup. I believe he's 26 and with as much time as he already has spent in the gym I doubt he could get much better. [IMG]

Give me a break. He has only been in the league 2 years and one of those was a shortened season. The other year he came off the bench. He still has plenty of years left. But, if he wants to be a starter, he is better off going somewhere else.
