Hoosiers. I heard HeyP gets teary eyed every time he sees that movie! ------------------ Behad Sergeant at Arms of the Clutch BBS
Hoosiers is the best. End of discussion. heheh On a side note, I saw this basketball movie called GameDay with Richard Lewis. It was WEIRD but I really liked it. Check it out! ------------------ "You have to think optimistic. I think it's never over till it's over." - Clyde Drexler after losing at home to go down 3-1 to the Suns in '95
Oops! I have to give honorable mention to Hoop Dreams. It's an excellent movie. If you watch it closely it has Jalen Rose and Juwan Howard in it when one of the kids goes to a Nike basketball camp. Pretty weird to see them before they were even in college. ------------------ "You have to think optimistic. I think it's never over till it's over." - Clyde Drexler after losing at home to go down 3-1 to the Suns in '95 [This message has been edited by Timing (edited April 05, 2001).]
Is Gameday the movie where the woman in the stands gets shot? If so, then I saw it, and I really enjoyed it. Very unique, with a touch of humor, and a hell of a twist ending that I just gave away. ------------------ Hakeem "The Dream" Olajuwon is the greatest player in the history of basketball. If you disagree, you are not a Rocket fan.
The Fish That Saved Pittsburg If you haven't seen, you too young! ------------------ I am an invisible man. [This message has been edited by kbm (edited April 05, 2001).]
ZRB- Yep! That's the one. It turned out to be a much better movie than I expected. ------------------ "You have to think optimistic. I think it's never over till it's over." - Clyde Drexler after losing at home to go down 3-1 to the Suns in '95
Hoosiers is #1. As a kid, I swam at a club pool in Houston. The manager at the pool was Ron Truitt who later coached CyFair to a state championship in the early 70's. Coach Truitt (who passed away years ago from cancer) told me that he was one of those kids from Hickory (really Milan, I think) who won the Indiana state title. I wish Coach Truitt were around now to talk to about it. I get choked up watching that movie, especially when Jimmy (Truitt?) comes out of the background to stand up for the Coach against those idiot parents. My second favorite basketball movie is "Pistol Pete: Birth of a Legend." He was the most entertaining basketball player of all time for my money. I'd pay to watch Pete play but not Michael. I'm NOT saying he was better than Michael, only more entertaining for my money! ------------------ Time is a great teacher-- only problem is it kills all its pupils. PowerbizOnline.com
I liked Hoop dreams, and "the goat" but dreams being more of a documentary i guess dosnt count. what happened to the 2 kids in the film?? where are they now?? ------------------ Hanta-Force Paintball www.hanta-force.com
me and a friend rented 'basketball diaries' once. the picture of leonardo decrapio deterred us, but it was the only decent movie we could find. we watched it... and... it wasnt a basketball movie!!!! in fact, i hated it! i know this thread is about the best movie, but man this one sucked a lot. what about blue chips?? shaq daddy hehehe ------------------ president of the sleepy floyd to hall of fame club. http://www.it-is-truth.org
I am suprised no one has chosen White Men Can't Jump. To Me, that movie is just as great as Hoosiers and Hoop Dreams (which I also like). BTW, don't diss the FISH...someone at least tell me that they've seen the movie. It has one of my favorite lines of all-time in it: "Let's go out there with fire in our hearts and blood in our eyes, and let's do what we came here to do!" ------------------ I am an invisible man.
Air Bud!!! That movie rocked....lol ------------------ Karma happens.... Victoria Titans to win it all!
I loved White Men Can't Jump. I don't know if you'd call this a sports movie, but I liked it. I think it's called Forget Paris(?) The Billy Crystal ref one. That movies not that bad, IMO. ------------------
Pistol Pete: The Pete Maravich Story is also an excellent basketball movie. I love the whole sequence where he bets the guy that he can spin the ball on his finger for like 6 hours... it was a good flick. ------------------ "Any event, once it has occurred, can be made to appear inevitable by a competent historian." Lee Simonson
As mentioned- "The fish that saved Pittsburgh" Clutch City Championship Video White men can't jump Hoop dreams Hoosiers ------------------ "UNBEATABLE"
I'm embarressed to say that I don't think I have seen any of these movies. I think I watched Hoosiers when I was a kid, but that was before I really like basketball. Don't remember it at all. I think I will have to rent it one of these days. Basketball Diaries did suck. That movie is all about drugs. The book is even worse. Don't believe anyone that tells you otherwise. I guess I have seen one of the movies. ------------------ Poopy! And, yes, I have a boyfriend. Five papers and counting! wahoo!
Oh yeah. Does Baseketball count? ------------------ Early man walked away as modern man took control, Their minds weren't all the same to conquer was their goal, So he built his great empire, And he slaughtered his own kind, He died a confused man killed himself with his own mind.
Im surprised nobody has mentioned 'The Air up there' That was an ok movie though. ------------------ Panties not best thing on Earth ... but next to it.
