A Laker, I suppose, is one who lives by a lake, since the Lakers originated in Minneapolis. A Clipper is a kind of sailboat, I think, or something to cut hair with. What either have to do with basketball is beyond me.
Ive heard the word Clipper being used to describe a good shooter and sounds ok to me but its only a guess.
Clippers are in reference to the sailboat. They played in San Diego after moving from Buffalo. Obviously, San Diego is a pretty big sailing area.
The "Laker" franchise originated in Minnesota (SP?), known as the "Land of Lakes" A Clipper refers to a Clippership, a fast four masted cargo ship, instrumental in establishing the route between the eastern seabord cities and the port cities of California before the opening of the Panama canal. Incidently, the State of Texas actually has more surface acres of lakes than Minnesota. I'll take Potent Potables for $400, Alex. GP
A ship on a lake , with sails. I've heard of two Teams from Hell with those monikers, but I assume your not talking about them.
