Hey, I need some help. I'm developing a lesson for my World War 2 unit about realism in war movies for my class of monsters. So, I will be showing a clip from a very realistic movie (the beach scene of Saving Private Ryan) and one from a not so realistic war movie. I'm thinking something along the lines of a John Wayne type of movie, where the hero runs into battle and kills 15 people in two minutes without breaking a sweat, with no blood or anything, and really phony death scenes. A 15-25 minute battle scene would be perfect. It would be best if it was set in World War 2, but that's not completely necessary. Also, it should be something that can be found at the local video store. Does anyone have any ideas? I will love you forever if you know a suitable one for me to show.
That's not really a war movie. That's a "one disgruntled veteran singlehandedly takes on a corrupt police force" movie.
Red Dawn The Thin Red Line Can't think of any real war movies that are horribly unrealistic offhand, but I'm guessing older films are where you'll have to look.
Patton- Those are not german tanks coming through the Ardennes. Kelly's Heroes - Great movie - not realistic DD
There was a special on the History channel once showing what was all unrealistic about Saving Private Ryan. Turns out it wasn't all it was cooked up to be.
It is a cheesy/funny movie. But I don't think you can use it your classroom. I think there are 1 or 2 nude scenes.
We were soldiers, extremely unrealistic. then again, I didn't think it was good, but others disagree.
The The Longest Day with John Wayne. It takes place during D-Day. This is the movie you are looking for. It has every thing. It has them landing on the beach to go with the scene in Private Ryan. A guy doing his "war cry" while taking out the enemy just before a great death scene where he is shot up but has no wounds or blood. The guy playing the bagpipes while calmly walking out of the landing boat is a nice touch too. and I do like this movie
