lmfao @ ppl thinking we can trade him for Hinrich n w/e, lol. dude is beyond washed up, i doubt we could get steve blake for him. garbo
teams looking for a glue guy/defensive stopper would be interested, however do not expect to get an allstar for just battier, personally i think we should keep him and still look to move artest.
Hi value was probably highest at last year's trade deadline. He hasn't been the same since his ankle went out in the Jazz series last year. His value will go up again when his contract is expiring. Right now you can only trade him for someone with a worse contract/longer years, or some other team's cast-offs. It's obvious this year that Shane is barely contributing.
i doubt teams would have need for battier nowadays. teams who would consider taking him are teams who have singled out players to move out (tinsley/pacers, marbury/knicks, etc).
odom for battier? for real? id take that. odom is underrated. he's long and athletic and is a good outside shooter. i dont care if people think he's soft or a choker. he's still a pretty well rounded player with intangibles and offense.
I'lll be looking forward to this in a rocket uniform <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/t5QpE09C7As&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/t5QpE09C7As&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/71SMu8A3VU4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/71SMu8A3VU4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y37a1WVTCV0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Y37a1WVTCV0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
u people r smokin rocks if u think the lakers would trade odumb 4 battier.. as many r****ded mistakes he makes out there on the court hes stil 1871417825646154x better than battier.. i tdont even think i team would take cash considerations or a second round pick 4 that loser
I am sure the Celtics would be very interested in Battier's services. Additionally, the Cavs might be interested and the Lakers would definitely call to see what it would take to get him. People sometimes underestimate his value and some Rockets fans overestimate his value. But on a realistic scale, he could bring us some good to very good players, but the problem is that the teams that would probably coveat him the most would only be willing to offer picks and young players since they have hopes of a title and wouldn't want to give up a rotational player. And the bad teams that have no hope would only be willing to give up bad contracts. But he can get us a good to very good player.
That's exactly what I wrote in another thread. Everyone has a right to their opinion but I think that most people overrate his trading value greatly. Even at his best,he is a very solid role player, that's all. No one is going to give a star or near star up for him even with his intangibles.
Pfft you make it sound like he's a 20ppg scorer that's putting up like 14. Shane's a career 10/5/2 guy. He's putting up 6/5/2. He's not in a slump he's just a dump of a player to begin with. Yet somehow some people view him as some kind of unsung All-American hero since he won a NC in college 8 years ago at Duke, says all the right things and looks like a goof when he "hustles". In reality he's a polished turd and he reminds me a lot of Ryan Bowen with a 3pt shot except he doesn't have even that right now.
You have made some good points, but the sheer fact that no one will give up a rotational player for him means that he can't bring in any one of immediate use to the team.
There are hundreds, these are a few after doing a quick 2 sec search: http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=77707 http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=76915 Search and you'll see more.. And the icing on the cake: http://forums.lakersground.net/viewtopic.php?t=75855
There is a huge, huge difference between "wanting" a player, "needing" a player and just plain paying lip service to a player. My money is that the NBA talk on Battier is just lip service to someone who hustles in spite of having nearly zip offensive skills. First, Battier makes $6.4m this season and will make $7.4m for the season after the Summer of LeBron. IOW, he ties up potential cap space for any team trying to be a player that summer. Secondly, the Celtics are way over the L-Tax with an $81m payroll. James Posey is damned near the defender Battier is plus Posey is far superior in transition and half-court. The Celtics let Posey walk rather than pay him $5.6m to be Paul Pierce's backup. Cavs? They finally smartened up and realized how unbalanced they were to the defensive end which is why they went out and got Mo Williams. LeBron handles the tough D and can actually take on PG's. Battier can't. The Cavs have a $90m payroll and the only player on their roster which works capwise for Battier is Varejao. And that's not happeneing on their end. When it all plays out, the Rockets will get much less for Battier than what the majority of fans here will believe. Partly because of cap economics and partly because lip service is more in play than fans of Battier want to believe.
Problem is he's been exposed. He was supposed to be our "glue" guy. Our 5th or 6th best player. The problem is with all the struggles we've had this year with our stars, injuries, changes, drama... many counted on Battier to be what he was supposed to be. The glue guy that you can depend upon for his 10 points, good to great shutdown D, draw charges, help defend etc for one reason or another he's been unable to do that and he's getting older and we're getting further from winning a Championship. Trade him for a mid 1st rounder if you can. I'd like to take a chance at drafting the next Granger, Thornton, T. Young, Ronnie Brewer, W. Chandler etc. Long, athletic, well rounded SF's who have complete games that can create their own offense? Yes please. Or trade him while you still can for a player like T-outlaw, Kleiza, Martell Webster etc.
