Here is an interesting question posed by John Mccain on Yahoo.

    Link

Here are some of the answers:

    Ban lobbyists from D.C.

Come up with a better system to keep big business from buying a president (this goes for both parties)

Change the way all politicians are paid. They would be paid on the basis of what percent of the voters agree with their decision in policy/law making. If 60 % of the voters agree, then they would get 60 % of their "base pay". I think that might be a wonderful incentive for the politicians to follow what the voters want, like it should be. The corporations wouldn't like it, but I don't care. . .

I would return the production and distribution of money to the federal government. As it stands, the Federal Reserve System, a conglomerate of banks in twelve districts of the United States, orders money to be printed by the Government, and then loans it back to the government at interest.
This situation has been in place since 1913.
How about we just implement Executive Order 11110.

This is the correct answer and the only one which will work- it is also the only answer that will never happen.

The owners of the Federal Reserve Banks control our economy and since this is the most powerful cartel on God's green earth it is next to impossible for them to be removed.

    Term limits.
    Public financing of campaigns.
Minimum jail sentences in high security prisons for ethical / legal violations (just like crack dealers).
Paid a multiple of the average household wage, with a penalty for not balancing the budget (like spend 10% more than you bring in and deduct 10% from your congressional take home).

Remove every part of the federal bureaucracy that is not authorized by the Constitution.

If not, go through every part of the federal bureaucracy. If it can be done more efficiently at a lower level of government, get rid of it.

Neither will happen, so I have to assume that John Roosevelt-Bush McCain is just giving lip service to reducing government spending.

    One post from the link:

"Just slow down on the lawmaking. There are just too many new laws coming out. Can't the whole country just slow down on the law making necessities? Please? There are new laws for this and guess what here are some more new laws and guess what tomorrow I spend all my time thinking and creating more and more and more laws. I think we should slow down a tidbit. And if we get into trouble we should ask ourselves ," what would Jesus do? or even "what would Thomas Jefferson do? or What would Abraham Lincoln do? or what would thomas Edison do? etc. you know what Im getting at? thanks for you service much appreciated and God bless you"

I do agree that we have too many laws already. But then the job of the lawmakers is to make laws. If they don't do that, they will be bored to death. Is it possible to make them only make laws when it is absolutely necessary? Think about the savings we can get by simplifying our laws.

I think we should strip off the lawmaking power of congress. The congress should only be used to issue directives. Then we let the professionals to make laws. I think that can simplify our legal system and improve government efficiency.

I think a lot of congressmen are actually lawyers.

But I doubt they are the majority. Also even if all Congressmen are knowledgeable in law, since they are not working in a coordinated manner, they are prone to introduce laws that bog down the system.

hmm that's an interesting question. Just how many congressmen are lawyers? I think there is a bigger percentage in the Senate than the House. Anyone know by any chance?

This link says 53% in Senate and 39% in House. Not sure what year that is though.
