i'm just curious. would you: a) package it with KT (or whoever) to get a low post scorer? if so who is actually available? b) draft ming (may be released by china...may not) c) draft quintel woods (by all reports, the next t-mac) d) draft draft amare stoudamire (legit big man, but young....) e) draft jason williams, and look at trading him to the highest bidder? f) draft dajuan wagner (pure scorer @ the 2 guard...all star in the making).
I think we take the best player available/guy with the highest trade value and see what we can work...I think the #1 overall for Odom sounds pretty enticing
Don't we owe the Griz a pick either this year or next year? If we get #1 I'd trade it to the Griz for their first round pick this year and get rid of our obligation to give them a pick. I'm not sure if they'd do it, but it would work out well for us. They will have a top 5 pick with their record, and we will have freedom to do whatever with next years pick. I have a bad feeling about this years draft for some unknown reason. By drafting 4 or 5 we can still get an excellent player. Does anyone know if you can trade back a future pick to the team that traded it to you? I don't think there is anything wrong with this, but I'm not sure. Finally, since the Raptors aren't going to make the playoffs this year, is there a chance we get the pick next year, or was it just a one year stipulation? B
I think I would jump and down screaming, then dance a jig. I have seen past instances when a pick was traded back to the original team, so I think it can be done. The Raptors pick is top-13 protected for years to come. So, for us to get the pick, the Raps must make the playoffs.
I don't like trading for Odom... don't know what his injuries are... don't know if he's really off smoking... and don't know if he's still improving (he's declining)... lastly, I don't feel he pushes us into finals contention. I think we could do better.
The Grizzlies don't have a first round pick -- it belongs to Detroit unless they get the #1 pick in the draft.
First, I really really really really hope the Spurs get their asses handed to them in the playoffs this year. Second, I would draft Jason Williams. Keep him for a year. We somehow figure out a way to give him about 15 to 20 minutes a game. Put Moochie on the injured list or something. Third, I hope we make the playoffs next year and show major improvement. (Do you guys really not know where I am going with this? ) Fourth, we hope Spurs again get their asses handed to them in the playoffs next year. Fifth, we hope Duncan demands a trade. Sixth, we jump in and offer Maurice or KT, Cato, our first round pick and Jason Williams. Our lineup: Duncan Griffin Terence Morris Cuttino Francis Bench: KT or Maurice, Moochie and garbage for all I care.
I would use it to trade down in the draft & acquire a player or players that will improve our team. For instance, trade down to the second or third pick for a player or future picks & then trade down to about 5-7 for something else that would benefit our team. Since we owe Memphis our #1 pick next year, it would be so sweet if they ended up with the 3rd worst record & got bumped down to the 6th spot in the lottery drawing. Then, we could swap picks with them, which would give them the 2-3 pick, for the release of next years obligation. If we were to get the first pick, we would have soooooo many options. Keep your fingers crossed.
i've thought about trading down, as well. however, i'm not sure who (outside of lamar odom) is on the market. no big men that i can think of. maybe theo ratliff, but he's been injured all year. eddie curry? i wish...
I don't think we can wait for more rookies to develop. We need young athletic players with some NBA experience trade #1 overall pick + Mo Taylor + Oscar Torres to Milwaukee for Tim Thomas + Michael Redd Rockets F: T.Thomas/G. Rice F: Griffin/K.Thomas C: Cato/? G: Mobley/Redd G: Francis/Norris Bucks F: Robinson/ F: Mason/Taylor C: Pryzbilla/Johnson G: Cassell/ G: Allen/Torres Bucks might want Williams or Ming or Woods
I'd either choose A, C, or E. I know that's not very specific, but... I can't say "A" absolutely, because I don't know who you're talking about. If you're referring to a Duncan, Wallace, or Garnett... of course! The #1 is too much of a gamble not to do that. If you mean Raef Lafrentz or Ben Wallce, of course not. I'm not sure if the first three (or their ilk) would be available even for that kind of package. I like C, but haven't seen enough of Woods to be sure. And E, of course, might be the safest bet. hell, even if we had to keep him, now that would be a 3 guard line-up I could live with!
If we win the #1 slot, IMO we must take Ming and pick up Wang as a FA to make Ming feel at home. Virtually all draft choices are potential busts, but -- considering Ming's possibilities and the national spotlight China will achieve, Rudy's international prestige as a coach and having Wang on the team -- I believe the Chinese will let Ming join the Rockets. Can you hear Gene Petersen: "Wang sends the ball inside. Ming... backing it in, backing it in, and, yessssss, he drives it home! Yaoooo!....with an assist from Wang. How sweet it is!" The Rockets would definitely be entertaining. But, all kidding aside, getting a chance to draft a player who has a better than average chance of becoming a primo center is necessary.
First, throw a party. Then, start some good media going- offer the pick around, with the prize being Jason Williams, but build up Yao Ming like crazy, so as to threaten with a backup plan. I think the #1 pick is more valuable than Odom. For the #1+KT+starch, I think we could probably get Odom+their pick (early teens), maybe even add Mooch/Dooling too. As for other options, I think Phoenix would move Marion for Ming. Could we pull a MONSTER mega deal with Washington? KT+#1 pick+Moochie Norris+future pick+starch for Kwame+Hamilton+Lue or Whitney. The #1 pick would net them Jason Williams, who would be the backcourt mate of Courtney Alexander, with MJ at SF, backed by Lue or Whitney, and Nesby. KT/Laettner would handle PF, and Haywood/White at center. Rumors have MJ going after Rashard Lewis who could fill SF as well, and this could also imply that we'd not pursue Rashard. We'd get high potential in Kwame, a sweet shooting swingman in Hamilton, and a change of pace behindd Francis. Trade speculation is a lot more fun with the #1 pick.
