Doesn't it depend on the tender the Falcons give him at seasons end?

Yes it does, but since he seems to be sought after I would guess they go with the 1st round tender (1st and 3rd round compensation). However, the Falcons could trade Schaub to a team that wants him for whatever compensation in picks that they would be willing to take. They might want at least a 1st rounder for him, though that does not mean they would get it.

I would offer the Falcons our 2nd this season and a conditional pick for next season. No chance in hell is Shaub worth a top 10 pick.

I don't think the Falcons could get that much for Schaub.

Thanks to those who answered.... I guess my follow up is:

Do you think Schaub is worth a 2nd and future pick? Thats the best deal out of those mentioned... I definately wouldn't ever spend a first and third on someone who's barely played in the last three seasons.

No because a QB isn't going to fix the problems this team has. DC is gone, we all hope but sticking another high cost guy back there is only begging for another five plus years of terrible football.

Shore up the foundation and get a servicable yet cheap guy to fill in for a year or two. I've been ripped for this before but the guy keeps winning in Philly and I think Jeff Garcia fits the bill. Then through the draft and free agency shore up the line and secondary (and my pipe dream is AP in the first) We are too bad for anyone to think another hot shot QB could step in and magically turn this team around

Well maybe Vince could but that train has left the station.

Since Ladell Betts is doing a good job in place of Portis the Texans should see what Clinton Portis would cost in a trade. He already knows the Denver blocking scheme and a backfield of Portis and Davis would be very nice to go along with the new qb next season.

The Redskins already said that Portis was going to be their starter next season. But things do change...

The Falcons might keep him over Vick.

I would rather have Vick or Portis, but it's a pipe dream.

Oh ok. I dont blame them for holding on to him. When healthy that guy is one of the best backs in the league.

If your #1 QB is a 6' 185lb. running back why would you trade your highly regarded back up? Chances are you are going to need him.

When Atlanta put Schaub at QB and Vick in as Reggie Bush Saturday you might have beem getting a look at next year for the Falcons.

i got that impression watching the falcons the other night. they have lots of plays where schaub and vick both line up in the backfield.

interestingly, i caught some of the giant/eagle game and aikman said only 2 teams showed any interest in garcia this summer - philly and houston. i assume it's true, that garcia told him that, but i sure don't remember there being any discussion about garcia...

    here’s an intriguing schaub tidbit:
"The drafting of QB Matt Schaub drew some criticism, but coordinator Greg Knapp likes Schaub's work as a short-range passer and his experience in running a version of the West Coast offense." from the sporting news.

More – this is very long, but… (emphasis mine):
the lack of arm strength and inability to throw outside the pocket would worry me… would kubiak be willing to tailor his system that dramatically?

i’d definitely give up a 4; maybe a conditional day 1 pick next year, too, but i’d be somewhat reluctant, if not completely reluctant to throw a day 1 pick at him this year.

Give up nothing for a quarterback. We are not going to win next year. We need many more quality players. Start with the Offensive line. I want an offensive line so good that Coach Kubiak could play behind it. Seriously, offensive linemen and Adrian Peterson. Put together a great offensive line and we can plug in a quaterback.

Question? How good is Steve Mckinny. The man has been the anchor of the worst line in football history. Is he part of the problem, or a warrior playing with to many inferior pieces.

Steve McKinney, Seth Payne, and Kailee Wong should all be cut next year. Carr will be as well if we can't trade him.
