In my opinion, Jackson is good, but he's more suited to being a 6th man off the bench. Battier is a player that is fundamentally sound & doesn't need the ball in his hands to be effective. He gets rebounds, steals, blocks & has a very good shooting percentage (48%fg & 40% 3pt last year). Nachbar, either doesn't have it, or isn't quite ready for the NBA yet. Battier is coming off the bench & his minutes have decreased each of his first 3 years. Memphis can use some more size up front & might be willing to part with him. What would it take to get him? Would they consider: 1) Nachbar/future #1 pick for Battier? 2) Amaechi/future #1 pick for Battier? 3) Braggs for Battier? I like Braggs' hustle & effectiveness off the bench, so I wouldn't throw in a draft pick with him. What do you think it would take to get him?
1. no 2. no 3. no and we can't trade a 1st rounder(unless we end up with one from another team via trade) right now because we already owe one to Utah. if you want Battier you're going to have to give up Cato or Mobes.
THey would not consider Braggs for Battier. Mobley for Battier? They are so deep...they don't need to trade Battier. Too bad. Why would they want Mobley? WHO WANTS MOBLEY?!? I want Battier..
Let's trade Collier for Battier!!!! What about Rice for Battier!!! Geez, Battier was picked before Griffin in the Draft, and we gave up 3 first round picks for Griffin. Jackson is doing a fine job right now. He is a 40% field goal shooter, Jackson will break out of his slump and help the Rockets a lot.
I would seriously consider Cat for Battier. I would probably do it. Move Jackson to the starting 2 and Battier to the starting 3 spot. I think that it would seriously improve our already improving defense. I also think that it would improve our ball movement on offense. I really don't know if or why Memphis would do this though.
Cat for Battier is a great idea. IMO, Jackson at the 2 will then be able to assume some of the PG duties from Francis as well - he is more than capable of pushing the ball up court and making the entry pass to Yao.
Battier is good, fine yadayadayada. What the Rox need is talent and focus. The Good Guys are not as talented as the Top 5 in the West, and only arguably as good as the rest. This team needs a talent infusion. This team needs upgrades at the 2, 3, and 4. Short of that, this team needs to be as well coached as JVG can possibly coach.
That's why I said a future #1 pick. We would have to place a condition on it, that would permit us to pay our obligation to Utah first (I still don't understand why we gave them so many picks). I know you know this, but I'll say it for those that don't. The CBA doesn't allow a team to trade away future #1 picks on consecutive years. However, a team can trade away as many future #1 picks as it wants, as long as there is at least one year between each trade. Now, working with your comment about giving up Cato or Mobley to get Battier, here's a trade proposal (you had to of seen this coming ) that could allow us to do that. However, since Cato is the flavor of the month (everyone's on his bandwagon, including me), this proposal will surely cause an uproar. Houston sends Cato to Memphis. Houston sends Mobley/Griffin to Indiana. Memphis sends Battier/Swift/Person to Houston. Memphis sends Tsakalidis to Indiana. Indiana sends Harrington/Fred Jones/Brewer (trade fodder) to Memphis. Houston gets a starting SF in Battier, replaces Cato at PF with a more prototypical PF in Swift, that has better shooting range & still gives us the rebounding & blocked shots of Cato, & we get a sweet SG in the form of Person, with a $7.7 million expiring contract. We can either start Person, or have him come off the bench as Jackson's backup. I'd start him. Memphis gets the tough, defensive-minded starting center that they've been looking for in Cato, Harrington-whom they can platoon with Gasol & Artest at the 3/4, Fred Jones-a promising young SG, & Brewer's expiring contract. This trade adds size to their front line & slightly thins out the log jam at the 2/3 positions. Indiana gets a starting SG to replace the oft-injured Miller in Mobley, a promising young PF in Griffin, & a big man to play the center position. Griffin is the wild card in this trade. He's only 21 years old & will eventually get beyond his current problems (unless he does something really stupid). If Indiana can see & believe that, then they might do this deal. There's no doubt that Griffin has the talent to be a star in the NBA, but he has to grow up first. It's inevitable, we all eventually grow up. Houston's lineup would then be: C: Yao/Amaechi/Taylor PF: Swift/Taylor/Padgett/Braggs(IL) SF: Battier/A.Griffin/Piatkowski/Nachbar(IL) SG: Person/Jackson/Piatkowski PG: Francis/Moochie/Wilks(IL) Our 2/3/4 positions would be deep & solid. Our 1/5 positions have stud starters, but we'll need to upgrade our depth through the draft or free agency this off season. The 1/5 depth is adequate for now, as long as our starters stay healthy. I know, I know, it'll never happen.
Mobley for Battier and their pick? The trade would make us better, but it would also make THEM better, so I wouldn't do it since they may end up competing with us. I must admit that I'd love to move JJ to the 2, and play Battier at the 3 though. I think we can get Harpring off Utah. If I had to decide between Harpring and Battier, I think I'd go for Harpring. He's locked up on a great contract, he's got more experience, better defense, and I don't expect Utah to compete at all anyway. Mobley for Harpring straight up? They're playing Harpring and Kirilenko at both F spots right now, and I think Stevenson at the 2. Getting Mobley would make them semi-decent, and give them a betetr go-to guy: Ostertag Clark Kirilenko Mobley Arroyo/Lopez/Williams Yao/Cato MoT/Cato/Griffin Harpring/AG/Boki JJ/Pike Francis/Moochie
The Grizzlies wouldn't accept anything less than Steve, whom they don't need since they have Jason Williams... DENIED
