What would it take for Rudy to be on the hot seat?

I get the feeling that if we had any different coach who hadn't been a Rocket (to his credit) for so long, would he be on the hot seat by now?

We haven't really improved all that much from the nightmare 99-00 season.

It's the same old problems that continue to plague us.

I think it might be time that the Rockets get some new blood in there at Head Coach.

Rudy seems to burned out. Remember a few years ago when he quit coaching that one summer to recover?

I know he won the 2 titles.

However, name me a coach who has won titles with the same team in an 8+year gap.

To his credit, Rudy was able to coach pretty well when we had Olajuwon.

We don't have him anymore, and suddenly Rudy's flaws are very noticable.

I posted a similar question close to the end of the season last year. If (or when) the Rockets fail to reach the playoffs for a third straight year, he should be on the hot seat. I'm sorry, but I don't think Rudy is all that good of a coach. I believe his poor coaching has lost many games for the Rockets and mabey it's time for a change.

I think Major (then shanna) started a thread about this not long ago...the general consensus seemed to be that Rudy would not end up on the hot seat for quite some time do to his history of winning basketball.

    Did Cat play???

Guys you have to have 3 offensive threats nowadays in the NBA...

How many do we have playing right now???
Cat and who else(if he played)... Norris, Torres, Rice(with his foot who knows what he can give us), Williams, Morris, KT, Cato, Willis, Brown and Griffin(too young to do any real damage) are all role players for Stevie Franchise, the Cat and Maurice Taylor... Guess what they aren't playing b/c of injuries...

Now we expect Norris to what give us 30 a night and Torres to do the same...
We new all along that our scoring would come from our guards and whatever the frontcourt gave was extra... Well our guards are hurt and our true offensive forward is out for the season... Sorry KT but we need Mo-T offensively...

Why all the Rudy bashing... Now I'm sure he has to try to make up a new scheme for our team right now b/c we can' expect Norris and Torres to do what Franchise and Cat did the first 5 games if not more... Thats not realistic at all..

I can understand the frustration but calling for a new coach is just stupid... If we were having problems with Franchise and Cat out there maybe something could be done then but take away about 50-60%(I think Cat and Stevie make up more than that) of any teams scoring and see where they are(on a team equal to us in youth)..

Where is Denver without McDyess, where is any team without there top 2 scorers... Where would Lakers be without Shaq and Bryant, Dallas without Nowitzki and Finley and San Antonio without Duncan and Robinson... I would love to find out.....

Even when we had Francis healthy, the offense wasn't exactly lighting it up.

Maybe a loss to the Bulls will put him there.

What would it take for some of 'us' to stop b****in' and moanin' about a team with a weak frontline, playing in the mighty Western Conference and without its 'Franchise Player'?

I recently heard a couple of NBA insiders talking about coaches in the NBA and someone called in and asked, "Do you think Rudy T. in Houston should be fired because his team is playing poorly?" The caller went on to say he thought Rudy was "burnt out" and that he may have been here too long, essentially the same stuff in this thread.

The response was a howl of laughter from the hosts. They basically said that Rudy, from all indications, has been rejuvinated by this young team and that we don't know how good we have it in Houston. They said that Rudy is considered among the top 5 coaches in pro basketball and he wouldn't last more than a day on the open market - that teams would line up to bid for his services.

They, like many others, blame the poor play in Houston on what they called a "horrific" front line, a group of extrordinarly young players and a bunch of injuries. They said that most experts expected them to be EVEN WORSE than they are now with the loss of Olajuwon and Taylor and that it is a miracle they are even in ballgames without Francis and with Mobley injured.

They said last year's team "played over its head" and said that Rudy probably deserved coach of the year consideration for how far he took the team last season.

I heard nearly the exact same comments from Lance Zerlein and Jonathan Feigen on 610 last week when a caller called in. Feigen said, "No team works harder for their coach than the Rockets" and that it was simply amazing that they were even in some games considering the injury problems and lack of core talent. He said that the fact that they are in every game, despite the losses, is a testament to Rudy's coaching skills.

Nevermind the fact that he is a guy that players throughout the league consistently point to as a guy they would love to play for.

I think that we get so caught up in the close proximity we have to our team, we forget just how bad it could be.

Here are a few coaches we COULD have...

    Lon Krueger
    Tim Floyd
    John Lucas
    Sidney Lowe
    Jeff Van Gundy
    Dave Cowens
    Doug Collins

Jim Lynam anyone? Don Nelson Jr? Del Harris?

I don't think that Rudy's being here has ANYTHING to do with team loyalty. I think it has EVERYTHING to do with the respect he has earned here and around the league and his skills as a coach.

No offense to the players or the coaches, but the players bear the burden of wins and losses. Great coaching gives you motivated players (which the Rockets have) and puts the team in position to win nearly every time out on the floor (which the Rockets have been). It is up to the players to deliver.
