Reading articles and looking at another 1st rd exit, would it be that suprising that KG bolts after next season? Would it be that far fetched that Minny would shop KG this summer? Remember he makes 28mill this yr and close to 28 next yr. The T'Wolves will have a low rd pick and mle exception to try t obtain players around him. If you're the rockets and McHale, what would it take to get Garnett, but yet leave the team intact so he resigns with you?

    Garnett -28mill
    Smith-4.5mill

    Rice-9mill(expiring contract)
    Taylor-8mill 4yrs
    Cato-7mill 3yrs
    Griffin-3.5 mill 3yrs
    Mobley-5mill
    plus draft picks

Is that enough to get Garnett? If you were McHale and knew he was going to leave, would you take it? If you're McHale, could you get a better deal that would match the salaries. This isn't as much Dreamcasting as some might think. Even though he wasn't the same player, but when we had to get rid of pippen, look at whatwe got for him. We could have sent him back east and gotten more than 4 bench players, but didn't. We probably would have to take Joe Smith, but he could back up Ming and Garnett. A role like Hawkins could fill the 2 if Posey isn't resigned and Nachbar/Morris could fill the 3 spot.

    Francis
    Hawkins/Posey
    Nachbar/Morris
    Garnett
    Ming

    For Houston

    Hudson
    Mobley
    Wally
    Taylor
    Cato

    For Minny

I'm almost afraid to post this, but I'm not just talking about espn insider who are talking about Garnett being shopped.

I uderstand what you're thinking, but what did we get for Pippen who was still a good player then. Cato,Williams,Rogers and Stacy Augmon who we waived. Isn't that a buch of crap also?

Pippen was 35 at the time. KG is 27 or 28.

I don't think you can really compare Garnett to a 33 year old, coming off of back surgery Scottie Pippen.

Also, the Rockets were desperate to dump Pippen. I am sure the Wolves and Garnett are not in the same situation.

Bottom line is, Minn is not letting Garnett go without getting a top 10 player in return. In fact, I can almost guarantee you that Minn would not trade Garnett for SF or Yao straight up.

Not to really debate it, but he was 32-33 at the time. All I'm saying is that most times when a player forces a trade, more times than not, the team that trades the player never gets market value.Example:

Although he was a very good player at the time, it was clear barkley was forcing his way out of phoenix. He talked about being lied to and everything else, so phoenix had to trade him. They traded him to us and for who? Chucky Brown,Robert Horry,Sam Cassell, and Mark Bryant. Out of those 4, Cassell got better and has played at all star quality while Horry has rode the coattails of another superstar big man. Bryant and Brown sack groceries for the local supermarket.

We were in the same situation with Pippen and what did we get? Williams,Augmon,Carlos Rogers, and Cato. We got those scrubs mainly to make the salaries match the 17 million in his contract. The only reason Seattle got Ray Allen in their deal was because Payton was at the end of his max deal while Allen was in the middle of his, basically making the same money.

When the trade for Hill for Wallace and Atkins were announced, who didn't think Orlando robbed Det? I for one thought it was highway robbery because Hill was still a top 10 player and they did a sign and trade for 2 middle of the pack players.

If you could show me a top 10 player who salary matches Garnett along with the other salaries, I'll leave it alone. On top of that, the team has to be competing for a ring in order to get him to resign. So if a team does trade for Garnett, they better have good enough talent to compete or he'll burn off after next season.
The one luxury or curse the Rockets have is they have alot of players making money on the bench that are capable.

You can't compare a 33 year old Pippen and a 35-36 year old Barkley to a complete, in his prime, player like Garnett.

And even if Garnett were to force a trade, which there is no reason he would, there would be plenty of teams offering Minn alot more than the players you noted.

Also, with regards to Hill, that deal was a sign and trade. Det was going to lose him anyway. As it turned out, looks like Det got the best of that deal anyway. That wasn't as much of a one sided deal as you think it was.

    Lets see:

    Dallas: Nowitzki/Finley
    Philly: Iverson + filler
Indy: Jermaine O'Neal (once resigned) /Artest/Harrington
    Minn: Davis/Carter
Sac: Webber (has an almost identical contract to Garnett)

So Codell, this is the problem we're having with this. Those teams can give up their best players, but is that enough to get Garnett to resign?
1st case Dallas: If the Mavs were to give up Dirk and Finley for garnett, they still would have to give up another player to match 28mill. That being said would having steve nash,Raja bell, raef lafrentz and shawn bradley be enough to get themavs out of the first rd and garnett to resign? Probably not. Plus, why would dallas give up Dirk who is younger and just as good and signed for 5 more yrs.

2nd case Philly. Iverson makes the post strike max which is 12 mill per. so iverson plus fillers mean you would have to take Iverson,Van Horn plus soemone like buckner. So that leaves garnett with snow, mckie, mcculloch, and john salmons. DC is a free agent like kt. Is that enough to get him to resign?

3rd case Indy: J'Oneal rsigned will make 12mill per,Artest makes 6mill and Harrigton makes 5mill=23 mill. Indy would have to throw in someone else at about 5 1/2 mill to make it work. What kind of team is Garnett left with? Bender,Tinsley,40yr old miller,Croshere and maybe, maybe Brad Miller if he doesn't leave. Would KG resign?

4th option is Webber: Once again webber is post strike max deal so that means he hakes 12-14mill per since he has 10yrs of service. Now you're still 14mill away from getting to Garnetts salary. So now if you're the kings, you might have to throw in B.Jackson at 3.5, Hedo at 1mill and even Peja at 9 mill. So is Bibby and Garnett alone any better than what you have now?

Whatever team trades for Garnett will have to have enough players to be legit or he'll leave via free agency. I found this article very interesting.

    From ESPN insider:

Garnett's disappointment was palpable on Sunday after the loss. KG brought his "A" game, but everyone else didn't play like their lives depended on it

Wolves coach Flip Saunders was flabbergasted by his team's shoddy effort. "I'd like to say I have a lot of answers, but I probably don't at this point," Saunders said soon after told reporters. "To start the game, we didn't nearly have the aggressiveness that you need to have to play anybody in a playoff series, but especially someone with the weapons the Lakers have."

Garnett opted against signing a contract extension this fall, in part, because he had concerns about the competitive future of the Wolves. Garnett even flirted with taking a major pay cut to free the Wolves up to add another top-flight player to the roster.

A seventh straight first-round ouster won't help things. Neither will the Wolves' relative lack of flexibility this summer. They'll have a late-first-round pick and their mid-level exception. Last summer, just about every prominent free agent rejected the Wolves' money. The one prominent guy they did get to sign, Ricky Davis, was matched by Cleveland.

If the Wolves can't convince someone to come this summer, or if they can't work out a trade (the problem is they have no one to offer) it could be trouble. Even worse, there still aren't any guarantees that Rasho Nesterovic, their third-best player behind KG and Wally Szczerbiak, will re-sign this summer.

The writing is on the wall T-Wolves fans. If something doesn't change this week, the Wolves will have to spend the summer sifting through deals that allow them to salvage something, anything, in return for Garnett.

If I'm McHale, I never trade KG. I might ask him if he wants better players, if he can pay them. But no trade, no way. Let him walk. Not for TMac, not for Yao. Put it on him to turn down the money.

Portland can always match anyone offer without giving up everything. They could start with Wallace at 14 mill, then they could throw in anderson and patterson and be at 26mill. Portland could go a variety of ways actually. They could go Wallace(14m)Davis(10m) and McInnis(4mill).The thing with that is Wallace and Davis will be fa after next season, but it would give minny cap room. Portland is about the only team because of their depth where they can trade their best player and some more good player and still have a good team. The Blazers could trade Wallace,Anderson, and Patterson and still field a team of Stoudamire,Wells,Garnett,Randolph and Davis.

Why would it matter to Minn if Garnett wouldnt resign with the team that they trade him to? Why would they care? They get the players they want.

Thats why Minn wouldnt trade Garnett without getting equal value in return, and that includes receiving a bonafide all-star in return as part of the package.

Besides, why wouldnt Garnett resign with Minn? There will be very few teams that have the cap room to sign him to the max. Minn still holds all the cards.

Just like Milw squeezed Desmond Mason out of the Allen-Payton trade , Milw wanted something in case Payton left via free agency. Any team that trades for Garnett get his Bird Rights. Garnett really holds all the cards and can pretty much demand who he is traded to. Its not his nature, but if Minny comes up with a trade and right before it happens Garnett says he will not resign with that team, how many teams would make that trade.

You would need a 3rd team involved because of BYC implications, but Minn might go for Francis, Griffin, Mo, Rice, Boki and Mooch for KG and Hudson. Honestly that would be a pretty fair trade. Houston would still have Yao, KG, JP(re-sign), Cat, Hudson, with Cato and a bunch of own (Tmo, Hawk) and other FAs (PG--MCE hopefully start over Hudson, PF?) filling out the roster.

Portland would also face BYC complications with Bonzi, but
maybe Sheed, Bonzi and Zach for KG would be pretty fair too. They could use DA instead of Bonzi.

    LEE-
Weren't you the one that was dogging me for believing that Garnett could be in a Rockets uniform next year? The Bulls are our only competition.

    Rose
    Fizer
    Williams
    Marshall
    #1 pick

Rockets or Bulls? Which would you do?

I doubt I bashed a respectable trade. If I'm the Bulls, I'd probably do it also. They would still have Chandler,Curry and Robinson.
