A good tightening should do the trick if looseness is really a problem.

He wont get fired. He might next season if Thibodeau leaves and they regress defensively. We know why they won 66 games, and we know why they will lose if they do. Ray Allen or someone else has to step up.

Despite the poor showing by the Pistons last night I still figure they are going to win the series. It just so happened that everyone on the Pistons had an off night.

Doc should have been fired before the even made it to this year. He's not a good coach, though he is good in handling the players. Just not good with the actual coaching part of being a coach.

Completely agree(d) with you. I was dumbfounded when the Celts announced he was coming back. Seemed like both sides had decided late last season it was time to part company. When the news came out I concluded the Celts franchise was a complete basket case. I ripped Doc on more than one occasion on the forum and thought he had given up on the team before the season was over.

But this season Doc has proven himself. Bringing Thibadeaux on board was a stroke of genius and you can't ignore their stellar regular season and the fact they've made it to the EC finals.

In my opinion, coaches who are great with players but know how to hire good assistants have a place in the NBA and can be very successful.

I don't agree with you at all here. I don't see detroit winning in boston again.

i think rick carlile got the boot from detroit after having made it to the ECF twice in a row. there was no real reason to fire him, but larry brown was available so they did. the pistons team carlile had was less talented than brown's pistons as well.

I don't know about you guys, but if my team is struggling and we even make it to a game 7... I don't expect to win. The Celtics have won two game 7's. It looks like they'll see a third. Maybe I'm pushing my luck, but I'm optimistic.

So is their play lately the aberation or was winning 66 out of 82? I'd have to respect the bigger sample size, and I still predict they'll win it all.

People might disagree because we expect champions to dominate through the playoffs. Maybe you pay a price historically for not dominating (coughRocketschampionshipscough) but oh well. I'll still take the ring and a series of exciting nail biters.

is that why he won the award as a rookie coach with the Magic, with a 41-41 record?

Mike D'Antoni may be biased, considering he coached Ginobili in Italy and he has an affinity for the European style. But here's his recent comments on him:

    [rquoter]
How does D'Antoni feel about Ginobili? Back in March, he told former Express-News writer Johnny Ludden and me that Ginobili is one of the three best players in the world.

“I think he exemplifies everything you want a player to be,” D'Antoni said. “Great in the clutch, great at getting after a loose ball, great at defense, great at offense, unselfish, takes a contract for less money to make his team better.

“I don't think there is one superlative you can say that is too much about him. Not (in San Antonio), but in the world he is unappreciated. Maybe because he is unorthodox, whatever. I don't know.

“But I'll tell you what: You can't get a better player than him. You can debate Kobe or LeBron. Fine. But he is right there in the debate.” [/rquoter]
