1.) Having to chase an offensive player through multiple screens? I.E. Reggie Miller 2.) Getting torched by being isolated all game long? I.E. Michael Jordan
That's actually really tough. From my pick up game experience, I know fighting through screens is a real b****. But, it must be incredibly frustrating to do everything right and still get scored on. It's close- but I'd say the first one. Only because if a guy like Jordan, Lebron etc. scores on me I can brush it off as them being great players. It must be pretty annoying to realize you can stop a guy otherwise if you didn't have to fight through 3 human walls to get at him. That said, I think the worst would be being torched through isos by a lesser guy. Imagine being stuck guarding a guy like Nick Young, thinking your night won't be too hard, only to have him drop like 50 on you. Unlike the other scenario, you can't easily brush that off to greatness.
Frustration would probably arise faster from being iso'd than from being put through multiple screens. Let's say your opponent, in both scenarios, scores 50. In the latter scenario, you can somewhat blame it on the fact that they tired you out, set illegal screens, etc etc. But for you to get iso'd all game long by a player, in which he just embarrasses you, is a lot harder to "cover up."
Assuming the person you're chasing through screens is constantly scoring, it may be more frustrating just because your body is taking a beating whilst getting scored on. If you're playing great D but MJ (or whoever) is still making every shot, not as frustrating.
chase through multiple screens is team defensive responsibility getting torched by being isolated is mostly single player's responsibility
If your opponent is running you through a million screens, that means they respect you as a defender. If they iso you all game, it means they don't respect you.
Question: Which annoyed you more? Getting torched by Austin Rivers or Getting Torched by Blake Griffin? There is your answer Rocket River
There is no such thing as being ISO'ed in this day and age. Without the illegal defense rule, teams can device defensive game plan to stop dominant scorers. The league has learned that no one can guard an elite scorer one on one, no matter how good the defender is. This is why Harden has been less effective in the playoffs. Teams don't let him just ISO. He can still take the step back shot. And if he is hot, it's unguardable no matter who is defending him. But he can't just blow by his man because the defense is waiting for him back there. So if you keep having to defend in ISO situations, you can blame the defensive scheme.
If a good player goes off on you even when you are all over them it's easier to shrug it off and say well I did all I could. When fighting through screens and picks and they get open for a second and hit, and help didn't get to them in time, that frustrates me a lot more.
1) Just means the player isn't man enough to take you one on one. 2) Just means the player is flat out better than you. I can accept that. *This only applies to pick up games. I respect pick up players that isolate and wave off screens. If you chop me up or J me then I can respect that. But I want the opportunity to try to D you up one on one.
running through multiple screens is just tiring <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5YyE62bbTek" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> if somebody is just scoring on me like that. all you can do is just shrug it off and chalk it up to being bested by a better man.
At least you can blame the screens, if your man is losing you and scoring. Getting torched on isolation plays is just embarrassing.
