That's it. I want Adonal Foyle!

The willingness to get dunked on. Now that is a man who loves defense.

So, to give my two cents, I go after Foyle, Fortson, and Darius Miles. Lewis is fine, but his availability is a long shot, IMO. If Miles isn't available with our pick, I use combinations of our picks and Drew to get known value from the 3-yr players (Foyle was #8 pick, Fortson was #10).

My intention is to beef us up, without losing the starting five and Mobley. I save big trade scenarios for next year's trading deadline, after Francis and the offense continue to prop up the value of every player. I could see Walt, KT and Cato's value continue to rise. And Mobley's will soar to the point you may never want to move him.

I think we can get Fortson or Foyle straight up for picks, and the other could be had in the FA market--possibly. At least get one of them. Outlaw would be my second choice.

So, assuming we can't get Darius or Rashard, here's my dream team:

    offensive set:
    WW
    KT
    Donny Fortson
    SA
    SF

Place Cato back on bench to return Fortson back to high rebounding #s and increasing his trade value. Cato, Mobley, Foyle come in as the defensive set to trounce the second teamers of other team.

    defensive set:
    SA/Rogers
    Foyle
    Cato
    Mobley
    SF/MN

let shandon get 38-40 minutes a game. he can do it. Francis may be ready for the NBA grind by then, too.

This team can now withstand injuries to Cato/Rogers.

Foyle was the leading college shot blocker of ALL TIME if I remember right. Of course, he came out of Colgate. Miles would be a really nice person to add to the team.

I don't like Fortson all that much. I think one 6'7'' PF is enough, and that's KT.

Walt is a free agent after next season is another thing to keep in mind. I don't doubt we could get Outlaw for the 2.3 mill exception.

I don't think Vlade would be moved, and as for Geiger, he's less talented than Cato, and just as hefty a contract....

Fortson did play some center when LaFrentz was out last year.

Remember, everytime Cato sits down right now, we feature a very small team. And we are winning. Forston will get his rebounds no matter what position he plays, and he has the strength to prevent anyone from dislodging him from sound defensive positioning.

Anyone want to give a review of Foyle's offense.

    What I want

    1. Resign Mobes
    2. Duncan!!!!
    3. Cato works his tail off
    4. KT dominates summer league
    5. Sign Lewis

    Lineup would be

    PG-Franchise/Moochie/Drew
    SG-Shan/Mobes
    SF-Lewis/Wizard/Bull
    PF-KT/Los/Mass
    C-Duncan/Cato/Pig

The draft is a question mark with the rockets odd picks plus you never know if a sign and trade for duncan with draft picks could occur or something else. Even without the draft the rocks look good. That is just what I hope for thougn and anything could happen.

    1. Re-sign Mobes.
    2. Drew, Rogers, Detroit pick #15 to Clippers for the first pick in the draft. Draft Kenyon Martin.
    3. Trouble in Seattle after first round exit; Rashard want minutes and can't get them. Rudy works his magic. His family tearfully begs him to come home.

    Starting five:
    Hakeem
    Cato
    Wizard
    Anderson
    Franchise

Floor opens up dramatically with two awesome jump shooters in Olajowan and Wiz. Veteran presence keeps everybody groovin'. Rashard takes starting spot when he shows he can stroke it from the outside. Cato on the floor with the alley-oop threat.

But baby, here comes the second unit!
Hakeem leaves, Cato slides to C, Martin comes in. BLOCK PARTY! Rashard and Mobes come in.
    Cato
    Martin
    Lewis
    Mobley
    Francis

Rockest consistenly blow out opponents in the 2nd and learn to hang on through the 4th.

    Nolen-Talk about a dream there.

We'd still have KT on our team as well. I'd package OUR pick, with Rogers/Drew for the #1 pick.

I personally would have Cato start at center (he'll get the most minutes) and have Martin start at PF. If Williams or Martin get in trouble, in comes Lewis. But Lewis said it was about minutes...how bout we use Walt as a 7th man (behind Cuttino) and a spot shooter?

(All of a sudden, I wake up and realize it'd take a lot of luck to pull off a trade for the #1 pick, resigning our 2nd leading scorer, and nabbing a guy like Lewis, while still keeping a top 15 pick.)

I'm afraid you simply cannot judge Foyle's game (or lack thereof) from a simple quote of his. If you've watched him play, you will understand why I wouldn't use anything more than a $1.1million vet exception on him. He is cursed with the worse set of hands in the league, is clumsy, has terrible hands, no offensive game, has terrible hands, not much of a defender (come on! Those stats were from playing at Colgate, a school better known for its toothpaste!), has terrible hands, and has terrible hands. Other than being worth 6 fouls, I don't see much use for him.

    On to more important matters...

It's nearly impossible to predict what will happen this offseason, because we just have so much damn flexibility for once. A $4.5mill trade exception, some nifty trade bait, a popular coach, and an exciting young nucleus any big man would want to play with. Hell, dont tell me you predicted before last summer that Maryland's freshman shooting guard would be a Rocket.

I think for this offseason to be a success, we must find some sort of frontcourt help. Any type of trade involving Cato or Williams would be a plus. Trade Cato...the man has less heart than Thomas Hamilton in the weight room. At the moment, we have no starter quality frontcourt players. Kenny will get there, but at the moment, he is not starter quality.

Duncan: It's not as far-fetched as most of you seem to think, but I wouldn't hold my breath on this one. I'd call it a gift from God if this happens. For now, we'll set this aside.

Forston: Heypartner has brought his name up, and I really like Fortson. However, he is in the Kenny Thomas 6'7 mold, and you don't want more than one of those. If Thomas is moved, I would look here, but for now, I'd rather stay away.

Lewis: I really like this guy. He has size, and can shoot the ball. He is still only 20 years old.

    Biggest Needs:

a)Somewhere within the next 3 years, we need to find that one other superstar for Francis, whether it be Duncan, Webber, or whoever.

b)Do not underestimate the need for shooters. Ball handling, rim-attackers are fun to watch, but you can't win without riflemen. Rashard Lewis would really help in this category.

    This Summer:

If we can unload all 3 of our trade players (Cato, Walt, Drew), and fill a frontcourt void, I would call this offseason a success.

Let's assume we don't pull off Duncan, or one of those incredible Olowakandi/Odom trades. What would be your ideal, realistic offseason?

    FREE AGENTS
    1. Resign Mobley
    2. Sign Rashard Lewis with sign and trade with 4.5 exception or outright, with 2.3 exception.

    DRAFT
(We don't end up getting other picks other than our own)
    With our pick, draft Oyededji.

    Lineup:
    Cato/Olajuwon
    Oyededji/Thomas/Rogers
    Lewis/Williams/Bullard
    Anderson/Mobley
    Francis/Norris/Drew

(One of those players would be on the injured list/traded.)

What would be your ideal offseason?

I think signing a solid PF (Bo Outlaw) and Rashard Lewis would be very positive. Maybe we could deal our pick if its not too high. Maybe for a capable center (Matt Geiger) or Vlade Divac. We also need to resign Cat, and deal Drew possibly for a future pick. Out lineup could look like this.

    Cato/sign or trade/Olajuwon
    Bo Outlaw/Olajuwon
    Lewis/Williams
    Anderson/Cat
    Francis/Norris/Cat

    thaCabbage:
Lewis is only shooting 32% from 3 pt. line. Do you really count him as a shooter? The Wiz is one of the better shooters in the league IMO, but you want to dump him despite your emphasis on the need for shooters. I'm a little bit confused, though I would choose Rashard over the Wiz just not for the reason that he's a shooter.

I think our guards are ready to win now and win a lot. Our frontcourt is just not there yet. I would count it as a good offseason if Cato and Thomas improved their games substantially and/or Rudy and CD brought in some help either thru FA or the draft, which is quite probable given our FA options and good draft choice. Priority #1 is to re-sign Mobley though.

Rashard may not be just there yet from 3-point range, but he has excellent form on his shot, and can hit the medium range shot...something very few young players can do. When I said I wanted good shooters, I didn't mean just one-dimensional shooters who can't do much of anything else. Rashard has some good athletic ability, has the potential to be a better defender, and is still only 20 years old. His primary ability is stroking the open jumper, but he can do alot of other things, unlike the Wizard.
