He is improving leaps and bounds year by year. Exciting times for Rox fans see this young player turn into a monster right before our eyes.
28 points is more likely for me. Think about it, with the exception of last year, there hasn't been three people who averaged 30+ points in a season for the past 14~ years. Shaq at his top scoring season scored 29 points per game, so I don't see why Yao can break 30 points for the entire season.
If he can regain his high percentage touch he used to have in 4th quarter, then 30+ is very much possible. As dominant as Shaq is, he wasted a lot of FT opportunities...
It's all about the players around him. If he doesn't have that second superstar, the sky is the limit stat-wise. And that's a distinct possibility with TMac possibly pulling a Grant Hill.
From here on out its more about how much he HAS to score and rebound. If he has a team full of others who can score with a high percentage when he gets them the ball when open why would he force the issue himself? If he is on a team full of rebounders his numbers will go down, if not his numbers will go up. I just want the Rockets to win.
It was a joke from someone. He already passed that stats line, either he's passed or in his prime, or yet to reach, that line is invalid already. BTW, I don't like this poll at all, even less that last option.
SO WRONG! SO WRONG! Yao is just on the cusp of his great years!!Yao will score over 27 points / game this year and within another four seasons will score 35 points a game.By this time the rules of the game will have changed and refs willl call all the fouls committed by any agressor, in any position.
Yao can be a 30 ppg scorer, but I doubt he'll improve his rebounding much. Maybe 11 or 12 rpg on the outside chance. He could potentially get a lot more assists if he continues to pick apart double-teams like he's been doing the past couple of games. I'd say a realistic guess at his prime time numbers would be: 30 ppg, 10.5-11 rpg, 2.5-3 ast, 2.5 blk
yao is probably in his prime right now, or at least very near it. he's averaging this many points because he has to, but normally, i'd guess he'd be around 27-28 points, and tmac around 22-24. rebounding wise, i think 11-13 is generous, he's not a natural rebouder, but he's blocking so well right now. there's lots to be excited about when it comes to yao ming
Tell me something, when do you consider Hakeem Olajuwon to be in his prime? I don't neccesarily think Yao will fill the stat sheet more than he does now, but his skills will improve so that he becomes a more complete/efficient player.
Yao is in his prime right now. He is 26 years old playing in his 5th NBA season. This season, along with the next 2-3 are going to be his peak years. I think the thread title is stupid.
