I am a big fan of Kenyon Martin, so I was wondering what would it take, short of trading Steve Francis, to acquire the number one pick? How does the salary cap come into the equation? ------------------
It really depends on who gets that top pick. Does anyone know for sure if the rule is in place where a team can not get the #1 pick in back to back years? Because if so Chicago can't get the top pick, but if they did have it PF is the least of their concerns (with Brand in the paint) ... you might see a team like that, with a solid PF, be flexible or willing to move. Other than Chicago I don't see a team in the lottery that couldn't use Kenyon right away .... the Rockets, from a 9th position won't have too much to bargain with unless they use some real chips (ie Mobley). If they win #2 or #3 somehow it may be a different story .... looks like Martin-Fizer are going to go 1-2 (though these are way early projections) ------------------ NOTHING BUT .NET CLUTCHCITY.NET

You know what, I really am worried about Cuttino Mobley. I think he will leave houston, so why dont we trade cuttino and the pick for the 1st pick of the draft. Then we get Kenyon Martin and we can all be happy. ------------------ President of the Moochie Norris FAN CLUB
Clutch-- Funny you should bring up the Bulls because last week, Tim Floyd said that drafting a PF is not out of the question. Jay Mariotti of the Sun-Times even cites the example of Krause drafting Horace Grant with Charles Oakley already on the roster. Brand was asked about this statement by Floyd and he said that he would understand it from a business standpoint and if he had to go somewhere else, he'd do just that. I personally thinks that's just pre-draft posturing by the Bulls, but with Krause, you never know. ------------------ [This message has been edited by grummett (edited April 24, 2000).]
I was under the impression when Chicago drafted Brand, that they didn't consider him to be genuine franchise player material. They thought he was a good player and solid citizen that they would ultimately use as trade bait to get a better talent. ------------------
Clutch--A team CAN get the number one pick in consecutive years. Orlando took Shaq with the #1 pick in the 1992 Draft. The next year, they got INCREDIBLY lucky and got the #1 pick again with the best record in the lottery (worst chance). They took Webber #1 and traded him to Golden State for Penny and three first rounders. ------------------
You can't trade Mobley; he's an FA. If he doesn't get the benefit of staying in Houston, why would he agree to a sign & trade? He could only get $4.1 million max while he may well be able to do better on the open market. Plus, his trade would make his new team weaker because they'd be giving up the first draft pick. Wouldn't he prefer to sign with them outright so they could have him AND the first pick in the draft? ------------------
ww + cato + drew = $13M~ so it depends on what garbage you get in addition to the pick. the Clippers would never do it though. They do not know how to structure a larger financial contract than that of the first pick, or roughly $3M. ------------------
